The Time Framed – Walls
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
Justin A – I’d have to describe it as unique and experimental. We don’t really stick to one genre and like to experiment with new ideas frequently.
Justin P – Our sound is very unique and progressive. I love how some songs will be so beautiful and then they get torn into by the next new sound of the song.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
Justin P – My musical influences range from Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Edge, John 5, Mike Patton projects and the Pixies.
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Walls.” What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
Jeremy – We’ve all been in a place where people have told us we can’t do this or can’t do that. Sometimes that person is our own brain telling us these things. It can get discouraging, but the message behind this song is break through the walls built up around us by ourselves and others and take the risk to do what we really want to do. Life is so short; we should never let barriers keeps up from our dreams.
Q) How did you come to the decision to share live footage for the music video?
Britt – We came to this decision to show the human side of performance. We do have more formal music videos in the works, but we’re big on showing what it’s like with us on and off the stage. We put a lot of work in developing an entertaining live show and feel that sharing live footage would give a good look at what we do on stage as well as the work we put in behind the scenes.
Q) What is your song writing process?
Jeremy – I have a myriad of methods for my song writing. Sometimes I’ll play a riff or random noise on my guitar or drums and start coming up with a song structure and lyrics. Sometimes I’ll flip out some tarot cards and write the feeling I gather from them. Most of the songs, though, come from dreams I’ve had that translate well into words and/or melodies.
Q) Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
Britt – For me, it’s a little bit of both. Sometimes a musical idea will hit me and I’ll share it with the guys to develop more to the music and write lyrics based on that. A majority of the time, though, I tend to come up with random lyric ideas, write them down, and listen to what the guys are playing to see if it fits. If something works, I’ll write out the song more to fit what they’re doing.
Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?
Justin A – 25%! We each put in our own flare on the song and work together so it’s an equal opportunity
Q) What can fans expect from a live The Time Framed performance?
Justin P – Fans can expect us to run around with our instruments, while developing our music.
Britt – Also, backbends and yoga moves. Jeremy is nuts about doing weird contorting.
Q) Will an EP or full album be coming in the near future?
Jeremy – We’ve been really enjoying releasing EPs as opposed to full albums. We feel it keeps our fans excited and asking for more music. Good news is that we do plan on recording another EP within the year!
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
Britt – On our last tour, we got to play at so many awesome places and made a lot of friends. Our first show was in South Carolina at a small bar in the middle of nowhere and had the most amazing time. I know we’ll definitely come back there. For me, though, I think my favorite place was Gold Sounds in Brooklyn. I had never been to New York before and being in Brooklyn was such an awesome feeling. We saw some of the most talented people of the entire tour and put on a great show.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
Justin P – One band we would love to collaborate with for a song is this amazing band called Cruel Curses. They’re local to our area and have so much energy and their songs are wild!
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
Jeremy – I listen to all kinds of strange things. Mostly, I’m influenced by Japanese rock, so I usually keep Mucc or Nightmare on repeat. If not J-rock, it’s usually The Mars Volta, Witch, Mr. Bungle, The Physics House Band, Toe, etc… I like music that isn’t afraid to be strange and think out of the box.
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
Justin A – Everyone and everything is on the internet nowadays. Whether it’s a band’s new album or upcoming shows, the best way to stay in touch with us or any other artists is through social media.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
Britt – We appreciate every single person who has supported us in any way, whether it’s going to a show, liking a social media post, listening to our music or anything. We put a lot of blood, sweat and tears into what we do, as most artists do, and every little bit goes a long way. I think even just a “good job!” or “keep it up!” goes a lot deeper and means a lot more than most people think.
