The Unicorn – So Far Away
By: Sammi Turano
The show opens with Wade (Walton Goggins) cooking dinner. He gets a FaceTime call from Shannon (Natalie Zea) and is excited because they haven’t spoken all week. As they talk Delia (Michaela Watkins), Michelle (Maya Lynne Robinson), Ben (Omar Benson Miller) and Forrest (Rob Corddry) take over the call. They want to know about her job, recipes and want her to settle a debate.
Wade finally gets the phone back, only to see it is Bert (Boone Nelson) on the line. He fills him in on his video game when Shannon finally gets back to the phone. Her schedule changed, so they can no longer meet up as planned. They keep trying to work out a time to meet, but their lives fail to sync.
Later on Wade is putting up a basketball hoop and filling everyone in on what is going in with Shannon. They were supposed to meet up, but her internet guy missed the appointment and had to reschedule. They discuss how hard it is to do the long distance thing as Natalie (Makenzie Moss) and Noah (Devin Bright) try to play. However, they both snark on him putting up the basketball hoop incorrectly.
Wade complains about his insomnia while Delia says she is sleeping better with the exercise program she is doing with Michelle.
We then see Shannon and Wade are video chatting when they decide to make it a bit spicier. However, it disaster because it is awkward and Wade’s dogs are watching.
Forrest and Delia go to bed with Wade hoping to get more sleep. However, Delia drives him crazy by talking about floods, burst pipes and other topics she is worried about. He calls Ben who gives him advice on how to calm down.
The next day the men talk about their nights when Shannon calls. However, it is a bit embarrassing because they make it clear they know about the spicy video chat. Shannon doesn’t care though because she took Saturday night off to be with him. Wade is excited, but then realizes Grace has a concert that night. They try to arrange to see each other on a different day, finally coming up with a plan so they can see each other for dinner one night….and some pre-dinner fun.
Michelle and Delia are walking when Michelle fills her in on things going on in the neighborhood, including a car robbery. Delia becomes worried, leading to her worrying Forrest during bedtime. He ends up calling Ben again who gets angry when Forrest falls asleep again. This leads to Forrest waking up again, but then falling asleep at the BBQ the next day. Linda the dog steals his food, causing Wade to snap out of his excitement in seeing Shannon and yell at her.
It turns out that Linda swallowed a corn cob, so Wade, Grace (Ruby Jay) and Natalie have to go to the vet. They are told that Linda will be fine and it will probably be best to let the cob pass. He tells them it will take anywhere from eight hours to two days. This leads to Wade trying to get her to get rid of the cob, ultimately making him realize how important Linda is to him. He shares this with the gang, revealing that he is even sacrificing time with Shannon to take care of Linda. Forrest agrees to watch her (despite not knowing Linda is a she) and reveals that he hasn’t been able to sleep. Ben says he cannot sleep because he calls while Delia says she only tells him the scary stuff Michelle tells her so she can sleep and vice versa. This leads to everyone coming to an understanding and getting sleep.
Linda poops out the cob, so Wade goes to see Shannon. However, they decide to meet at a diner halfway between them. They share a meal and a good time, but at the end of the night realize they are still having trouble finding time to see each other. They decide to “not say goodbye” and go their separate ways.
