The Wren in the Holly Library
By: Jamie Steinberg
The Wren in the Holly Library is a little Assistant to the Villain meets Thieves’ Gambit. Kierse McKenna lives in an era where monsters have emerged and have come to a treaty with humanity. She is a top-notch thief who has been tasked with lifting a ring from a nearby home. Upon getting caught red-handed; however, her life is turned upside down and she finds herself at the mercy of a benefactor who could save her and her friends from ever having to be poor again. Only, it turns out that he is a monster – one Kierse is unfamiliar with – and he has a new mission in mind for her. Page by page, readers will quickly devour The Wren in the Holly Library, eager to find out if Kierse can save herself and her friends, but (maybe more importantly) if she survives what lies ahead of her.
Kierse is a gifted thief that knows no fear (thanks Jason). She has been paid to snatch a ring without knowing that it is kept in the home of a monster. There has been a truce in place between humans and monsters for thirteen years now, but when Kierse enters the Holly Library she crosses path with a charming and intimidating monster named Graves – one she was not expecting to find. Rather than turning her in, he sees potential in her and tasks her to snag something for him. With a price negotiated, Kierse must now live and train in Graves’ home to be ready for what lies ahead of her. What she doesn’t expect is that this job will turn her entire world upside down – opening her eyes, mind and heart to more than she could have imagined.
The chemistry between Graves and Kierse is off the chain (as the kids say)! They seem to have a connection that brings a beautiful ease between these two who have had their walls up for far too long. Author K.A. Linde does an exceptional job of making Graves a mix of the rigidness of Christian Grey with the thievery skills of Danny Ocean. So, when Kierse and Graves collide, there is magic in every sense of the word. Page after page, you will be on the edge of your seat voyeuristically looking in as Kierse tackles her biggest job yet while simultaneously uncovering secrets long held within herself.
Readers will surely find themselves entranced (pun intended) by The Wren in the Holly Library. I’m already clamoring for this to find a movie studio because I think it could reach Twilight levels of fandom and success. Hey K.A., I know the book just came out, but be ready for an influx of messages already asking for more of Kierse’s adventures.
