Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) My sound is driven by melody, somewhere between nostalgic and futuristic. For a while I didn’t know how to describe it, but it’s def a new sound of rap and R&B. Shoutout to KillaGraham, too. He’s been key in creating this unique sound.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) My musical influences range from Michael Jackson, who’s the earliest inspiration I can think of, and Kendrick Lamar and Drake heavy when I was in high school.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “On the Run.”

A) My song “On the Run” was made in a time when I was just listening to a lot of Michael Jackson. You can hear it throughout the production. Dan Farber, another amazing producer I work with, noticed on my IG stories that I kept bumping Michael and he was like lets cook up something in that realm.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) Fans can definitely connect to the emotions and message of the song. I hate politics, but I love people. Sometimes, as artists, we have to use our platforms to speak to what’s going on in the world, what’s happening in the streets, the rage and the anxiety. Those are emotions a lot of people can relate to.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) My writing process is consistent, starting off with a mood and finding word that fit that mood. I don’t need music to write, but lyrics without the right sound can be cool. But there’s an emptiness with it, so I’d rather always have the sound first, just to have a guide to where I’m trying to go.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) To be honest, I’m heavily involved in the production of majority of my music. I don’t know the ins and outs of mixing or sound design, but I know what sounds good to my ears and I love experimenting. So, I usually always end up trying a lot of shit and that just makes me more involved. But I can’t take credit for the sound of the drums or chord progressions. I’ve been blessed to work with amazing producers.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) I’m working on my first album right now. I’ve only dropped one full project and it was a mixtape, so I’m just excited to see how the evolution unfolds.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) It’s been a while since I’ve been on stage but I don’t know to be honest. I love the energy at festivals for sure and I love to be on stage, but I don’t feel like I’ve performed at my favorite spot yet. Those moments are soon to come.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I listen to new music here and there from artist I like to check out, but I’m not diving into anyone to be honest. I’m too busy seeking inspiration and living day by day.
