Interviews
Tommy Dunster – Desire
Q) What are the current projects that you are working on?
A) Right now, I am not working on a specific project. I have some things in the works. I just finished working on the show “Desire” a couple of weeks ago and that is it for the moment.
Q) Please tell us about your character George Marston on the show “Desire.”
A) George comes from a formerly wealthy family that is now almost broke. Basically, he is scheming to get back his fortune with his half sister Victoria (played by Sofia Milos).
Q) What made you want to be a part of the show?
A) I first read for the pilot and I loved the script. I loved the character, as well. It was really a challenge because this was the first time that television had a primetime show every night. The plan was to shoot sixty-five episodes in three and a half months. That is great for an actor because you are not waiting since you are acting all of the time. I thought the project sounded really fun so I did it.
Q) What about your role challenges you?
A) He’s completely different than me. It’s nice when you get to play someone different and challenging. You have to do your homework before you start shooting. We were lucky that we got to read at least five episodes before we started shooting. It was different then when I was working on “All My Children” since there was a new episode every day and you never knew what is going to happen with the storyline or if they would change it. It’s different because you know the storylines won’t change and your character won’t change either. It’s really interesting because you can do your homework and be solid when you do your scenes. It’s fun for me to play a guy who is so different from me.
Q) What is your most memorable moment from filming the show?
A) I don’t know. There are so many that it is so difficult to tell you one.
Q) Why should people take the time to tune in to the show?
A) It is a telenovela and every episode has a cliffhanger. It’s a good story and it’s different than a typical primetime drama that viewers are accustomed to seeing on American television. I think it’s fun! I think it’s a good that you don’t have to wait a week to see what’s going on with your favorite show. It has a lot of good qualities!
Q) What made you want to originally be an actor?
A) It just happened. I always loved to watch movies and television. When I was seventeen years old, I used to go to a play that a friend of mine was directing. I would watch all of the rehearsals so I ended up learning all of the lines. They invited me to go on stage and when I did, I loved it.
Q) How as your Hispanic heritage shaped you as a person?
A) Everyone is a little bit different. We each have different ways we carry ourselves and live our lives. My Hispanic heritage comes from being born and raised in Argentina. My mother’s side, actually, came from Italy and Spain. My father’s side came from France and England. I am a really big mix of heritages. I am not sure exactly what to say though. I feel really proud, anyway, to be from South America. It’s really challenging for me and for everyone who comes as an immigrant to this country looking for their dreams. Sometimes I have gone to Hispanic parades and it is really emotional. I never thought I’d feel that way. It’s a lot of people coming from Latin countries and it’s really supportive and emotional. I am proud to be an Argentinean.
Q) What do you do in your spare time?
A) I enjoy being with my family. I play sports and go to the beach. I try to be with my family as much as I can, though.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) I hope that all of you are enjoying the show and my character. I hope that I have the chance to play another role soon. The show is coming to the end of the season on December 5th with a great finale. Don’t miss it! I hope to be able to show fans of “Desire” something else soon!
