Tom’s Elton Tribute
By: Jamie Steinberg
On Saturday, March 23, 2024, we had the pleasure of watching “Tom’s Elton Tribute” at Rose & Alfred Miniaci Performing Arts Center in Davie, Florida. Performed by musician Tom Cridland, this artist puts on quite the live show that beautifully pays tribute to the iconic artist that is Elton John! So, start warming up your voice, because you will absolutely enjoy singing along to this wonderful show.
Born Reginald Kenneth Dwight, the man we now know as Elton John has gone on to become a music legend. At “Tom’s Elton Tribute,” pianist Tom Cridland’s audiences get to enjoy listening to Elton’s classic hits and fan favorites from “Bennie and the Jets” to “I’m Still Standing” to “Rocket Man” and even the beloved song “Candle in the Wind.”
Attendees will really appreciate Cridland’s deep connection to Elton John’s music. In fact, an interesting note from the concert that Cridland shares is that it was John’s influence that encouraged him to give up alcohol six years ago. From there, a sober Cridland took the time during the pandemic to learn to play the timeless music that John wrote and created with songwriting partner Bernie Taupin. Playing 100% live with no backing tracks or lip-synching, fans absolutely find themselves on their feet singing and dancing along.
Another real point of interest is Cridland’s outfits. As flamboyant a dresser as his idol John is, Tom wears bespoke, rhinestone encrusted suits that are hand embroidered with various imagery from Elton’s songs. There is such detail put into them down to the shoes, which are custom made by a cobbler, that pay homage to the metallic leather oxfords and brogues that were donned by the musician in his Las Vegas residency. Make sure to check out his eyewear as well as they come from Gucci and l.a. eyeworks – glasses only other worn by Elton himself.
For those who love Elton John and his music as much as Tom Cridland, we recommend going to see “Tom’s Elton Tribute.” The performance delivers as well as an Elton John live show, so if you have the opportunity to check it out become a “Tiny Dancer” by grabbing tickets so you can “Crocodile Rock” all night.
