Each week I’ll be picking the best drama, comedy, and sci-fi/fantasy moments from the shows of the prior week. They may sometimes be equipped with some of your favorite ships or tear-jerking moments, so keep reading if you are still not over what happened on your favorite TV show this week!

Drama: The Chi, “Eruptions” – Coogie’s Taco Corner

After losing his food truck, searching for another job and then finding his food truck, Brandon (Jason Mitchell) went through a lot in just this first episode. The stories told on this show are so well-crafted and woven together. The flow of Brandon’s journey to finding the real heart of why he wants to cook made me shed a few tears. Seeing Brandon decide on a name, Coogie’s Taco Corner, for his food truck warmed my heart. He originally just wanted the truck so that he wouldn’t have to work for anyone else, but after pondering over a small question from a chef he was interviewing for, he found his story. Coogie (Jahking Guillory) continues to be an important part of Brandon’s story and I love how they’re still incorporating him in Season 2!

Comedy: Fresh Off The Boat, “No Apology Necessary” – A model minority.

Jessica (Constance Wu) tells Louis (Randall Park) the reason she is so adamant about not having Eddie (Hudson Yang) apologize was because of something that happened to her when she first started teaching in America. I felt her reasoning was very valid and held a lot of power behind it. She felt that what she was accused of, whether she did it or not, would always be how they saw her. Just because she apologized, didn’t mean they were going to change their mind about how they saw a person like her. As I minority, I definitely related to that and I think Fresh Off The Boat did a great job at explaining how she felt as a new immigrant in America. Taking the hit and apologizing even when it’s not your fault isn’t always the best choice.

Sci-fi/Fantasy: Cloak & Dagger, Shadow Selves” – Ty the protector.

One of the main reasons Ty (Aubrey Joseph) is so against Mayhem (Emma Lahana) going around killing others for the greater good is because he doesn’t want to see other black boys get killed like his brother. He is not fan of the “shoot first, ask questions later” agenda. So when Mayhem runs into the building and starts shooting everyone in sight, Ty cloaks himself in front of one of the younger boys and successfully keeps the bullets away from him. He also manages to capture Mayhem and send her into her fears. My favorite thing about this show has always been how it surprises you with the way Tandy (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone use their powers. This was definitely one of those moments and I sat jaw-dropped as I watched the scene unfold. The scene was so comic book-esque from start to finish.
