Top 3 TV Moments – 2/18 – 2/22
By: Malasha Monique
Each week I’ll be picking the best drama, comedy and sci-fi/fantasy moments from the shows of the prior week. They may sometimes be equipped with some of your favorite ships or tear-jerking moments, so keep reading if you are still not over what happened on your favorite TV show this week!
Drama: This Is Us, “Our Little Island Girl” – I’ll say a little prayer for you.
I cannot talk enough about how amazing this particular episode of This Is Us was. I’ve wanted a Beth (Susan Kelechi Watson) centric episode from the beginning of the series and this one gave me so much more to love about her character. After crying throughout the entire episode and watching it multiple times, I finally decided which moment really brought it all together for me. The final scene where Beth takes a moment to let go and dance again was such an empowering and stunning moment to watch. The music playing along as we see all three Beth’s dancing was perfect because it really showed all the happiness being brought back into her. Beth is making more steps to keep that promise that she gave to her father. Although she forgot for some time, she’s ready to express herself through teaching others to dance. Susan put on a phenomenal performance throughout the episode so it just made it even better to see her actually dancing in those final moments.
Comedy: Shameless, “The Hobo Games” – Lip is over Fiona’s new drinking habits.
Fiona’s (Emmy Rossum) continued downward spiral has reached its tipping point for Lip (Jeremy Allen White). After diminishing his chances of keeping Xan (Amirah Johnson) and getting the boy he was sponsoring drunk, Lip decided he wanted Fiona out of the house. The scene that concluded the episode really had an eerie finality to it for the relationship with these two. Lip’s efforts to do right by more people has been on a steady path for a while, so his blowout with Fiona was warranted. My heart broke for how the argument went, but Fiona’s uncaring attitude wasn’t really helpful in the moment. After watching Fiona’s actions throughout the episode, it was inevitable for her to end up here. I just hope that she will finally see how bad her behavior has gotten.
Sci-fi/Fantasy: Supergirl, “Menagerie” – Nia Nal suits up!
Nia Nal (Nicole Maines) finally took the leap and suited up to fight off Menagerie (Jessica Meraz)! She helped Supergirl (Melissa Benoist) when she was a little preoccupied trying to escape the bindings that Menagerie had put her in. I loved watching Nia fight and I can’t wait to see more of it. Right now her powers seem minimal, but I think with further practice she will turn into something really great. She’s definitely going to live up to her mother’s expectations.
