Top 3 TV Moments – October 11 – October 16
By: Malasha Parker
Each week I’ll be picking the best drama, comedy or reality TV and sci-fi/fantasy moments from the shows of the prior week. They may sometimes be equipped with some of your favorite ships or tear-jerking moments. So, keep reading if you are still not over what happened on your favorite TV show this week!
Drama: Grand Army, “Brooklyn, 2020” – Do I fit in now?
Leila’s (Amalia Yoo) peers bullying her about not being Chinese enough was one of the more interesting parts of the Grand Army premiere. While I am invested enough to continue watching, the start of the other characters’ stories were more predictable in the first episode. She obviously has a skewed view of how to fit in with everyone and after a great monologue she shows how vulnerable and gullible she can be when it comes to how people view her. I am interested to see how far this storyline takes her and how it’ll determine a lot of her decisions.
Comedy/Reality TV: Social Distance, “And we could all together/Go out on the ocean” – together apart, forever apart
In this comedic yet slightly dramatic twenty minute episode, Imani (Danielle Brooks) struggles with having to work and take care of her child without any form of childcare during the pandemic. Marion (Marsha Stephanie Blake) constantly avoids her mom to the point where she has to take care of Imani’s daughter. Things get so bad and a little out of control, but a song about a boat brings everyone together for a moment of calmness. No more mothers making snide comments and asking their daughter to come to see them and no more anger between two women from different backgrounds.
Sci-fi/Fantasy: Helstrom, “Mother’sLittle Helpers” – A one-sided fight!
When Gabriella (Ariana Guerra) visits Victoria (Elizabeth Marvel) alone things go as expected. But it was the most exciting part of the Helstrom premiere! We got an evil-possessed person fighting and trying to destroy others in their wake! It seems it’s only going to get messier from here, but hopefully a little more exciting too!
