Top 3 TV Moments – October 6 – October 11

Each week I’ll be picking the best drama, comedy or reality TV and sci-fi/fantasy moments from the shows of the prior week. They may sometimes be equipped with some of your favorite ships or tear-jerking moments. So, keep reading if you are still not over what happened on your favorite TV show this week!

Drama: The Good Doctor, “Claire” – All about Claire!

Claire (Antonia Thomas) was finally focused on the way I have been begging for her to be for three seasons. She’s definitely my favorite character and I’m so glad she had the chance to shine this week as she led her first surgery. My favorite moment, though it was small, was when Claire took some time alone to celebrate by jumping up and down after she completed her surgery. Though it had a minute hiccup, it was successful. I may have even shed a tear because she was so genuinely happy and had shown what an amazing doctor she was throughout the entire episode. Antonia Thomas gave a great performance, especially in the therapy scene with her mom (played amazingly by Sharon Leal). The small moments that Claire had alone were some of the best. I just wish it could have been all good all the way through. She gets a lot put onto her character when it comes to tragic things happening to her and this episode ended in much the same way. I’m just glad she got to have that small moment of joy while she could.

Comedy: black-ish, “Feminisn’t” “There through thick and thin, my girlfriends.”

Getting to see all of the Girlfriends ladies on screen together again was an absolute series highlight for black-ish. Watching them discuss feminism and point out the flaws in Rainbow’s (Tracee Ellis Ross) feminist group made it even better. After highlighting the ways to make the feminist group be more inter-sectional, Abby (Nadia Quinn) asks Rainbow to the kitchen to tell her not to talk about race so much. This moment was a turning point for Bow because it brought out Abby’s true colors on the issue. I love that Bow brought her friends in as an example for Diane (Marsai Martin). She succeeded in doing so and this made her turn everything around for both her and Diane. She made Diane proud to say she was a feminist.

Sci-fi/Fantasy: Black Lightning, “The Book of Occupation: Chapter One: Birth of Blackbird” – Comic book vibes.

My moment from this week’s Black Lightning is sort of a mix of two moments. The opening title slate and scene is what drew my attention this week. I love the new comic book slates that roll by with the titles. In the opening scene the people who have been taken for using Greenlight are being questioned. The way this scene was filmed and the way everything was shown was so visually pleasing to look at. I loved the way the screens showed sketches of the individuals and the way the room was lit. Even though this isn’t our first time seeing where they were all being held, the way it was angled and the quality of everything gave the season opener a refreshing spark. It all came together in a very comic book type of way, but with more elements than just seeing it in a fight scene. I hope they continue to have elements like this throughout the season.
