Interviews
Trevor Wesley – Chivalry Is Dead
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) Well, hopefully my music is heard and instead of me having to describe it in words listeners can describe the sound they interpret to their friends! [smile] I feel like if I try and explain my sound it will only box it into words.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) I grew up listening to all sorts of different kinds of music like Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Snoop Dogg, Sublime, Bob Marley…the list goes on! I have always had an ear for creativity and aside from Jazz, pop, hip hop and other musical genres. I am inspired by my peers and friends who play music and inspire me to be better.
Q) Your upcoming LP is called Chivalry Is Dead. Where does the title come from?
A) It really comes from a song I wrote called “Chivalry Is Dead.” I think that title just fit for the title of project, especially since it had success with Ian Eastwood’s awesome choreography. This day and age can use a little chivalry.
Q) What is the message behind the song “In This World?”
A) I could tell you an awesome story that will blow your mind, but no matter what I say all you will remember is dat ass tho…
Q) How did you come to work with Raven Felix on the track?
A) My business partner and her manager are good friends and they linked the two of us. We’re both valley natives in LA who are on the rise so it all made sense. Next thing you know, bam! She jumped on the song. [laughs]
Q) How does the video for your song play into the message of it?
A) My aim was to have fun. This song is playful, but also embodies an older feeling with the piano. So, we wanted to match that feeling visually/aesthetically. Dat ass tho…
Q) What do you think it is about “In This World” that fans have connected to?
A) Well, hopefully my fans and I are connected and get my humor, musicality and taste in life! [laughs] I’m super thankful to have such awesome fans. The feedback has been great so far. I’m excited to keep growing!
Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) I am very much involved. I am super thankful to have my friend Trinity be the yin to my yang on this project. We both bring different sides of the spectrum together with the intention to make something innovative, creative and authentic. It seems to just work!
Q) What can fans expect from a live Trevor Wesley performance?
A) Expect to see me soon! [laughs] I can’t wait to tour. I’m super excited because I love to perform. We’ll see where the music can lead me!
Q) What songs off Chivalry Is Dead are you most looking forward to performing live?
A) Honestly, the ones that people want to hear the most and connect to. I am thankful to be able to sing any of them!
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) People who love what they do, are super passionate about their craft and not afraid of breaking rules stretching boundaries in music. Most of all, good people I can call friends. I work best with people that are fun and cool to be around.
Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to Chivalry Is Dead?
A) Well, I hope to influence being respectful and being chivalric not only to the ladies, but to everyone. A gentleman never goes out of style, but just cause I’m a gentleman don’t mean I ain’t takin’ you to bed!
Q) Is there anything else you want be sure fans know about your music?
A) My album will be available November 4th and the preorder is up and available now so be the first to get it!
Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way to connect with your fans?
A) It is a great way to communicate and share what I do and who I am. I love getting to know my fans and what they connect to.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter?
A) Just thanks for your continued support and that I am super excited to be able to share my music with everyone. Let’s get it!
