Triple Charm – No Problema
By: Sammi Turano
Q) Your newest single “No Problema” is super catchy with a very danceable upbeat rhythm. What’s the inspiration behind the song?
A) Our latest single “No Problema” is our second bilingual single, and it’s about escaping into your own paradise where you’re free from all your worries. The initial inspiration came from the idea of daydreaming and how you go off into your own paradise while daydreaming. It’s an escape from all things that may be going on in your life and you can just find happiness and good vibes in this paradise. We wanted to create a song that captured that very essence and feeling. It has some super dreamy, tropical elements, but of course our paradise is a dance party, so it has some reggaeton vibes as well.
Q) What was your vision for the “No Problema” music video?
A) When we were writing “No Problema,” we knew this would be an amazing opportunity to film the music video in Puerto Rico. Our grandparents grew up on the island and we’d never been before. Puerto Rico is known as “La Isla del Encanto” or “The Island of Enchantment,” so what better place to film a music video all about paradise than on the most magical island?! It was such a special way for us to connect even deeper with our roots and film in the city where our abuelo was born, Old San Juan. From the colorful streets and buildings to the waterfall and beach, each element of “No Problema” was perfectly captured in Puerto Rico and our vision to show the beauty of the island came to life!
Q) What was the importance of releasing your latest bilingual single “No Problema” during Hispanic Heritage Month this year?
A) Releasing our latest single on Hispanic Heritage Month was really important to us. Through writing “No Problema” and filming the music video in Puerto Rico, we got to connect with our roots and culture in such a deep and amazing way. We wanted to celebrate our connection and also inspire other people to connect further with their heritage. There is no better time to do that for us than during Hispanic Heritage Month!
Q) What was it like working with Latin-Grammy-award-winning producer-songwriter Andrø Pop for “No Problema?”
A) Working with Andrø Pop is always a great time! We’ve been writing with him for almost two years, and every project we do with him teaches us so much. We really like to push each other creatively and try to create something that sounds new and fresh. Especially on “No Problema,” we worked really hard to create a sound that was super unique and combined lots of different elements from reggaeton, house and Caribbean styles. With each new song we try to create something even better than the last, and he is just such an amazing musician and collaborator.
Q) Congratulations on your song, “Tough Boy” becoming viral. How does it feel to have TikTok’s and YouTube shorts being made using your song?
A) Thank you! This has been one of the most exciting reactions we’ve had to one of our singles so far. We created a dance trend to our single “Tough Boy,” and it has been incredible to see our audience and so many others do it! Our single now has over 115,000 videos on YouTube shorts! It has been such a crazy journey seeing it go viral and continue to climb. We are so grateful to everyone who has used our song and so happy that everyone is enjoying and connecting with it!
Q) The music video for “Thrive” was shot in one continuous take. What was the production process like for it, and what was it like to also direct?
A) In the past two years we’ve produced, directed, edited and choreographed all of our music videos. This has been such a fun process, and we love having full creative control over our projects. While we’re writing a song, we usually come up with the music video concept and the idea of one continuous take has been something we’ve wanted to do for a while. With “Thrive,” we had the idea to start at one piano and end at another all-in-one shot. We filmed the music video on a local trail, and a few days before the shoot, we rehearsed at the location and ran through the choreography to see how far apart we’d need to set up the pianos. On the day of, it was just the three of us and our dad, so we hauled out the two pianos to the location and started shooting the video. There were definitely a few funny moments and bloopers, but we got the video on the sixth take, and we knew it was the one. The best part about filming a video in one take is that by the time we wrapped, the video was done. and we didn’t need to edit much. [laughs]
Q) Who are some of your most listen to artists of this year?
A) We all have been listening to a lot of K-pop! One of our favorite groups is XG. We’ve also been loving Sabrina Carpenter and Gabriella has been throwing it back with some NSYNC. She got super into their music this year and was watching a bunch of their old performances. We’ve been super inspired by NSYNC’s live shows and the energy of their full-out performances!
Q) What is your typical songwriting process like between the three of you?
A) Our songwriting process is a little bit different for each song, but it always starts with the concept or message we want to convey to the audience. That really is the foundation for each one of our songs, and the lyrics and melody start to flow after that. Sometimes we work on creating a track first with our producer, then write the melody and lyrics. Other times we come up with the lyrics and melody first. We usually create the core of a song in just a few hours. It’s always fun to then create the arrangement between the three of us and decide who wants to sing what and create fun harmonies and ad libs.
Q) What have the fan reactions been like so far for your latest singles?
A) We really love to engage with our audience and reply to comments on each of our posts and videos. Having such a strong relationship with our fans has been so amazing, and we always get excited to see their reactions to a new single. We’ve received so much love on “No Problema,” and it has been so cool to see that people who don’t even speak Spanish are loving the song and resonating with it. Since our viral song “Tough Boy,” we’ve gotten lots of comments from people who couldn’t wait to see the trend we created to “No Problema.” We weren’t really expecting so many people to ask for a trend they could do to our song, but it was super exciting for us to see. People are already hopping on our new “No Problema” dance trend which is so cool!
Q) How do you balance your music careers with still being teens?
A) It has been amazing starting this journey at such a young age because we still have a lifetime ahead of us to continue to grow and reach all our goals. Balance is super important for us and one thing we really prioritize is having time as a family and as sisters outside of “work.” We love spending a day by the pool, or just chilling and watching Netflix together at the end of the night. Having fun together just as siblings definitely carries into the energy we are able to give on camera and in our music and is that extra spark that we think our audience enjoys in our content.
Q) What would you like to share with fans about what to expect at your upcoming debut shows in LA and NYC?
A) We are so excited for our upcoming shows in LA and NYC! We cannot wait for everyone to see what we’ve been working on. We’ll be performing all of our hits and some unreleased music! Everyone at the shows will be getting a sneak peek of new music to come. We’ll also be doing meet & greets at each of the shows and have some exclusive merch available. You can definitely expect a night full of singing and dancing.
Q) What do you hope lingers with fans who check out the uplifting and fun music that you make?
A) We hope that everyone who listens to our music feels inspired or empowered in some sort of way. Our goal since we formed Triple Charm was to create a positive impact, and the best way we know how to do that is through performing. Each one of our songs is a reflection of that and we hope when you listen to our music, you feel even better than you felt before the song started. Whether it makes you smile or dance along or belt out the lyrics, we want our music to be a source of positivity for everyone!
