Ingrid (Allegra Edwards) and Nathan #2 (Robbie Amell) preparing for their honeymoon. Nathan is distracted by missed calls from Nora (Andy Allo). She is angered he seemed to have lied about Nathan #1 being destroyed. Bringing his attention back to the present moment, Ingrid mentions rumors about layoffs at Horizen. Though she remains confident she will be okay.
In Lake View, Nathan #2 now holds a job as an AI cashier in the real world. He now has to help fund his stay and luxuries at the hotel with new changes. With the chaostrophic evidence brought to light about Horizen last season, employee changes have been made. In order to help make the company money the new boss, Jitendra (Lee Majdoub), has implemented making the residents work. He also announces that there are plans to fire many of the current living angels. In addition to that, they are testing a new MRI scan to upload more people. Aleesha (Zainab Johnson) is distraught at these changes with her new double agent life. Nora begs Aleesha to give her a job so she can sneak into Lake View to search for Nathan #1. After breaking her down, she eventually agrees.
In an attempt to make their AI resources more human-like, the AI staff at Lake View have undergone many training sessions last season. The intent was to invoke more humanity for them as they interact with guests. However, this is met with the AI seeking companionship and validation. When the AI concierge (Owen Daniels) is told he is not allowed to partake in romance with the guests, he unintentionally makes a woman copy of himself. He and this new AI Girl (Anja Savcic) begin a relationship. Aleesha is delighted by this as they will distract each other.
Nora makes her grand return to Lake View to search for Nathan #1. She eventually runs into one of the AI groundskeepers and tries to get his help in locating Nathan. This conversation is interrupted by Lucy (Andrea Rosen) telling the staff that the rumors of layoffs are untrue. However, the company is now offering to upload current staff for free as well as donuts. Tinsley (MacKenzie Cardwell), in her ditzy ways, is excited about the donuts. She hurries off to the breakroom to immediately be uploaded and therefore killed. Sadly, she did not get her donut first.
Luke (Kevin Bigley) and Aleesha finally take a moment to discuss their kiss before the conversation is promptly interrupted. Aleesha receives a phone call from B, that she knows she has to take. Luke fakes a phone call with Beyoncé to seem as if he’s busy too. Back in the real world, Aleesha is sent on her first official mission. Her combat training comes in handy when she is thrust into a fight with two agents. She successfully intercepted a package dropoff and hopes this means she is now even with Oscar Mayer Intel. Babatunde (Dayo Ade) lets her know she is still needed. They have discovered a property owned by Horizen. It is believed human medical experiments are happening. Meanwhile, Luke seeks out therapy with his therapist dog. Due to budget cuts, that program was deleted. His therapy session is now with Ingrid as a chinchilla. She expresses her excitement to change everything she’s ever wanted to about Luke and promises to keep their conversation a secret. Unless it is really juicy of course.
Nathan appears to be scanned into a beachy hotel room with stark white walls. Two doctors ask him random questions and see his responses as images about his head. As this is happening, Nora goes to visit Nathan #2. She pleads to see his last memory of Nathan and he refuses as it is too traumatic. Nora reveals she’s been speaking with Nathan #1. She accuses Nathan of lying to her and he tries to comfort her saying he sees her too. He believes it is her grief acting out. When he won’t help, she continues on her search alone. Feeling defeated in the real world, Nora sees Nathan again on a vending machine screen. She tries to make him remember when he was taken away. He tells her that he was in a room with a big screen broadcasting Nathan #2. The Horizen staff made the two Nathans argue over who got to live and his memory is fuzzy after that. He is visibly weaker as he begs Nora to find her.
The AI concierge proposes to his “female shaped AI” girlfriend. She is quick to reveal that she wants to see other people and has feelings for someone else, the AI bartender. She claims all she did with the concierge was talk about his favorite elevator buttons while she has more meaningful conversations with the bartender. They often discuss his favorite drinks. Though this side plot seems meaningless, it provides funny commentary on AI while letting audiences enjoy Owen Daniel’s performance as all of the male AI’s in this final season.
Nora returns to Lake View to demand answers from Nathan. She makes him show her his final memory and he does once she reveals information only the other Nathan would know. He reluctantly cues up the memory for the pair to watch. In his memory he and Nathan are on opposite sides of screen, with Nathan #2 inside it. The current leaders of Horizen question the two and say whoever is most helpful to them will be rewarded. Sticking together, both Nathans play dumb to the questions. Nora is delighted by their playful banter. However, the stakes are raised when they reveal they plan to kill one of the Nathans. Nathan #2 sticks to the act while Nathan #1 sacrifices himself and says to save his copy. Nora and Nathan #2 watch in horror as he is killed. As they come to an understanding, Nora can hear herself being called in the real world by Aleesha. Checking in, she discovers *is confused by her presence so Aleesha quickly plays dumb and hurries her out. In the same moment, Lucy is escorted out after being fired.
Ingrid saunters off into Nathan’s room and once she sees the mood he’s in, she applies her new therapy chinchilla techniques. Though they are set to head off on their honeymoon, she tells him it is okay to put it off a little longer in order to relax his mood. They cuddle up to watch an episode of his favorite show.
Back at Aleesha’s apartment, Nora returns home to closely rewatch the memory she saved from Nathan #2. When Aleesha returns home, Nora reveals her findings. Nora is quick to realize, the video is faked. When Aleesha questions how she knows, their other roommate, Ivan (Josh Banday), chimes in her months living in the AI world prepared her for this. Nora is able to restore the original video file and they see Nathan was not killed. He is sitting in one of the new MRI machines. Aleesha shows her hand with her knowledge on Horizen’s new testing center and they collectively figure out that is where Nathan must be and make plans to go.
