VALÉ – Lightspeed

By: Alejandra Gil M.

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Latin alternative pop, if I had to put my sound in a box!

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) ROSALÍA, Kali Uchis, Charli XCX, CA7RIEL and Paco Amoroso to name a few.

Q) Your new song “Lightspeed” is out now. Where did the idea for this come from?

A) I had just come off from my first ever tour. I was feeling like I was on cloud nine, like my courier was about to take off, like I was going extremely fast hence the title. That is, to the core of it, the inspiration behind “Lightspeed.”

Q) What’s the songwriting process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) It depends on the day, but usually I write melodies first.

Q) You also have out single “vueltas” and per the press release: “vueltas is about being stuck in that emotional loop with someone who’s just not giving you the love you deserve.” What kind of response have you been receiving to it from your fans?

A) I think everyone loves it! I have been playing it live on the Obsession Tour and the response has been amazing to it! I think everyone is really happy with it and that makes me even happier.

Q) That song came after your debut EP under the sun. In what way has your music changed from your debut?

A) I think my music has shaped up to sound more mature, feel more mature. I think it’s just a natural evolution of what my sounds started as.

Q) Is there a song from the EP that challenged you the most emotionally?

A) “Siempre Serás Mi Corazón” was definitely the most emotional song on the whole project. It talks about nostalgia, home sickness, how growing up away from home is so hard but ultimately home is where the heart is.

Q) What is your favorite song under the sun and what makes it so special to you?

A) I’ve been loving “coco water” lately. It’s the perfect song for the summer and just the best vibe in my opinion!

Q) You were named one of PEOPLE‘S Spring Emerging Artists and have received love from Rolling Stone and Paper Magazine amongst others. What has it meant to you to get more recognition from your music?

A) Getting recognition like this so early on in my career means the absolute world to me, I couldn’t be more grateful. It all just feels like one massive blessing, but also surreal. I am fulfilling the dream. I’ve had my whole life and I’m happy to be getting cool accolades on the way.

Q) You also just wrapped a sold-out tour with The Driver Era and you’re back on the road with them. Where are some of your favorite places to perform?

A) I loved Asbury Park!! It was such a blast. I usually love venues where people are all standing up instead of sitting. The energy is just completely different between those two.

Q) What can fans expect from a live VALÉ performance?

A) Electricity. Jumping. Probably an attempt to do a stand-up comedy set.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) ROSALÍA for sure.

Q) What artist/musician are you currently listening to and why?

A) Bad Bunny’s record from early this year has honestly been the number one music piece that I have been constantly streaming this year. It is just the best music he has put out in a long time and I connected with it instantly.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who has just discovered your music?

A) I hope you find comfort in it, find confidence, fun, your inner most beautiful self, while listening to my music!
