Interviews
Vedo – You Got It
By: Paige Zinaman
Q) How would you describe your sound to listeners who may not be familiar with your work?
A) I would describe my sound as soulful R&B, which focuses on the art of storytelling. In my opinion, the art of storytelling has been missing in R&B for the last four to five years. I want my music to make you feel something; it should give you goosebumps. You can visually see what I’m saying in a song. Some R&B songs don’t give you that visual stimulation. Even when you’re not watching the video, you could listen, close your eyes and visualize what I’m saying.
Q) Are there any recent projects you have coming up?
A) Yes, definitely. I will be dropping new album soon, with features from a few dope artists including Lloyd and Eric Bellinger. I cannot say much more than that right now, but the new project is definitely going to be hot.
Q) You just debuted “You Got It (Remix).” what was it like to collaborate with Ty Dolla $ign?
A) It was amazing! I received an email from Ty Dolla $ign stating that he loved the song and would love to be part of it. I listened to his verse and immediately loved it and we rolled with it.
Q) What made you want to do the remix of You Got It?
A) I just felt like it was another way for my fans to enjoy the song, especially having Ty Dolla $ign and then Young Dolph and Money Man jump on the remix.
Q) “You Got It” holds such an incredible message. As you were creating this song what did you hope listeners would take away from it?
A) I was hoping that it would be an inspiration for everyone, not just women. However, as an R&B artist, of course it was written with a woman in mind. With so many negative stereotypes toward women in the media, I felt like this song was needed, which is why I think it took off the way that it has.
Q) You also launched an IGTV docuseries called SHE Got It which is based off this song. Going back to the beginning did you ever see your song becoming something more than just a song?
A) Honestly, I knew when I was writing the song it was a great song and my hope was that it would touch and inspire people, but I didn’t realize it was going to blow up like it did.
Q) Your song has gone viral on TikTok, which is such an amazing platform to boost music. What was it like finding out just how much “You Got It” has gotten?
A) Yes, TikTok has been great for boosting the song. I enjoyed viewing all the amazing Tik Tok posts by all the beautiful women. It was unbelievable how quickly it grew and how much it continues to grow right now.
Q) Life has been pretty crazy because of the pandemic, has that influenced your work as an artist?
A) Yes, the pandemic cancelled shows that I had planned, and I couldn’t go to the studio like I use to, but the positive side to that is people were locked-in at home. So, my streams went through the roof. More people were listening to my music and posting on TikTok, which also helped the popularity of the song.
Q) Being a part of social media, feedback is instantaneous. What’s it like to read the comments from your fans?
A) I love connecting with my fans. I love reading all the positive feedback that I get from them. It gives me energy to continue to make more great music.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) I would like to say thank you for all of their love and support. I really appreciate it. I wouldn’t ’t be where I am today without them. I would also like to them to know that I have more great music coming soon with some great features from some dope artist. Stay tuned!
