Vezza – Permanent Holiday

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) I think it’s more electronic…I’m a rhythm guitar player, so I like to make synths sound like I’m strumming a guitar. I grew up making pop-punk music, so there’s a heavy influence there as well. The reason why I’m releasing singles and not an album right now is because every song sounds very different… It’s whatever I’m feeling that day. [laughs]

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Owl City and New Found Glory are probably my main influences.  I also love The 1975.  I grew up with friends and family that have been in bands throughout the years, they are probably my biggest influences above all.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Permanent Holiday.”

A) The story is about a couple that moved to the other side of the world from New Jersey together.  It was inspiring to me… the fact that as long as they had each other, home could be anywhere.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) There are a lot of lines in the song that I think will spark memories for people, as it does for me.  The indirectness of the lyrics can really take you any way you want to perceive it.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) I really just wanted a visual for the song, but I tried to film it at a time and in a place that is normally crowded, but there is no one in the video.  There were thousands of people on the beach a few hours after I filmed the video. It was a really busy weekend down the shore.  I’m an amateur photographer, so I wanted the video in a place that would hit the camera sensor just right and look beautiful.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Yes, I need music before lyrics. I like to think about music as the mood for a movie scene and then I write the scene on top of it. I write about how the instrumental makes me feel, even if it doesn’t totally make sense. If I connect to it, chances are someone else will.  Even if it’s just one other person, it’s worth it for me.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) All of it.  I don’t collaborate with outside production for this project though I may in the future!

Q) What can fans expect from a live Vezza performance?

A) I will most likely throw an exclusive destination-style concert in the very distant future.  It will be epic, but you won’t see me ever play in your local dive bar.  If a proper tour opportunity comes up, that’s when I will worry about it.  With the internet… I just see it as wasted studio time.

Q) Will there be a full EP or album coming in the near future?

A) I might.  It depends…. It’s a singles world, but I might build something that properly goes together just to give people abundance of content to soak into. If I get to it, it will be fun.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Honestly, I love playing down the Jersey shore.  That would probably be my #1 pick.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Adam Young… This is a life goal but I’m pretty sure I can get it to happen eventually.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) Snail Mail!  She’s angelic.

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) Fans are great, super fans are social.  It’s funny to me how many people listen to my music but won’t say anything to me on the internet, social media feels very anti-social.  It’s important because it’s the way I can get it into ears for free, and not have to tour local dive bars.  But at some point, its word of mouth and distribution that will ultimately be more important.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I’m not a band and I don’t rely on any studio/engineer/or producer to make my songs. As long as my heart is beating… there will be more music. [laughs]
