Interviews
Vinessa Vidotto – FBI: International
By: Patience Kapfer
Q) How was your character Special Agent Cameron Vo originally described to you?
A) West Point bred; daughter of a two-star general. Spent her childhood moving around and loathes the term “army brat” – especially when she’s worked hard, too hard, to get where she is now. Her drudgery paid off and she found herself recruited by all the alphabet agencies in the US – but she’s eager to make a name for herself in the FBI. Fun, a bit of a smart aleck, and just as competitive as her fellow agent, Raines (Carter Redwood). Skilled at interrogations, she’s made a name for herself after cracking a serial killer during a head-twisting interview. Green but eager to learn, and soon everybody will be calling her “Director.”
Q) Was there anything else you added to the character that wasn’t originally in the breakdown?
A) Heart! As time has passed with new scripts, new perspectives and tone, I’ve definitely given Vo more heart in scenarios that require a softer touch. Female victims especially! Vo’s youth and tenderness plays really well with victims needing guidance, comfort, trust and understanding. It’s been a beautiful transition to become softer, although I do miss the smart aleck, tough, attitude-y side to her, so I’m trying to bring that edge back in Season 3! Hope ya’ll don’t mind, cause it’s happening. [laughs]
Q) How has the addition of new team members, especially Special Agent Amanda Tate impacted the Fly Team?
A) Amanda Tate (played by Christina Wolfe) is incredible! I think she briefs us better than any of us have! [laughs] She’s a great, great addition to the team!! Love her. [smile]
Q) Vo has been taking more of a leadership role so far this season, will we see more of this as the season progresses and will it pose any new challenges for Vo personally?
A) Yes, she has! And yes you will! 😊 I think in this realm of the FBI world, there will always be challenges, but especially with this new leadership role for Vo! One of the challenges is being undermined by outside officials coming into our HUB to help us out with a case. And two, like you said, personally, Vo’s self-belief in calling the shots when her teammates are out in the field. Obviously, Forrester (Luke Kleintank) is our leader in command with the most experience and so he gets to call most of the shots and we trust him with that. So, for Vo it’s exciting, and a position she’s been striving to get to, but it’s also scary at the same time, ya know? Calling the shots and potentially messing up, big time; people’s lives are in my hands, victims, civilians, my teammates, so it’s a lot to bear.
Q) Episode three left viewers with a bit of hope for Agents Vo and Raines romantic future. How might the potential of their relationship impact the team dynamic going forward?
A) [laughs] No comment. [smiles] Just keep watching, I guess!
Q) Is there anything you would like to like to see for Vo’s character in the future?
A) Ooo yes, more action, leadership and to dabble into more foreign languages again! I really liked that about her in Season 1 and 2.
Q) What have been some of your favorite moments while filming this show?
A) Some of my favorite moments have been getting to travel Europe! Very grateful for that. Another is the guest stars and getting to know them, especially if we are on together for a long period of the shoot! I’ve made friends with a handful of them; I’ve gone to one of their acting classes in Mallorca during my winter break, have had wonderful dinners and fun adventures with them like trying to adopt a cat in wild, going on the Ferris wheel, a boat ride on the Duna River, etc.! This job can be very demanding and very much a solo one, so having these meaningful bonds, I truly cherish them! And of course, it helps with the acting chemistry onset!
Q) With such intense storylines, how do you shake off a long day of filming?
A) I love taking baths, eating, shopping, cleaning, sleeping or working out! [laughs]
Q) What can you tease is to come on this new season of “FBI: International?”
A) I’m wondering, too. [laughs] It’s just as exciting and unknown for us as it is for everyone else! Things are always changing and shifting, so we shall see!
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and the work you do?
A) Thank you, thank you, thank you! Your belief in me touches my heart, makes me smile. I read all the comments and try to respond to all of them. Thank you for the encouragement and uplifting words. It’s so necessary to receive that and to give to others. I see the thoughtful comments. I love the questions and try to answer them. Their greetings from different parts of the world are just amazing! Even meeting those in person, everyone is so respectful and lovely to meet! It still shocks me in the best way!
