Q) What projects that you are working on?

A) I have another show out in the states right now called “The Royals.” I play a girl called Angie and you can catch it on E! on Sundays. It’s so much fun filming “The Royals” – we’re on Season 4 now. I also have some stuff in the pipeline in the UK again. I’ve missed working here – I really connect with the sense of humor in British scripts.

Q) How was your character Nyssa Vex on “Krypton” originally described to you?

A) My agent, Alex, sent me the pilot and said, “I think you’d fit perfectly into this world”. I remember thinking how amazing the project sounded and also thought it was way out of my league, but when I read the pilot, the character was so mysterious. I was intrigued so gave it a go anyway. I thought I had nothing to lose!

I feel like the character has changed since we brought her off the page. In the original breakdown I was given was this: “Nyssa is betrothed to Seg-El. She has a deadpan sense of humor about herself and her pre-programmed future. Seemingly demure and compliant, Nyssa will be revealed to be a budding politician with incredible ambition. “

Q) What made you want to be a part of the series?

A) I loved the concept of exploring such a legacy that hasn’t really been touched on before. I was a fan before, so it was all extremely exciting for me!

Q) Was there anything you added to Nyssa that wasn’t in the initial breakdown?

A) We added in the element that Nyssa could fight. I’ve studied MMA since I was younger, so I felt like she would be physically strong as well as mentally. This opened up a world of storylines and different avenues for her to go down, which made her even more exciting to play.

Q) What have you found challenging about portraying her?

A) I found not knowing who or where her mum was quite difficult. I like to know a character’s past, but I don’t think anyone had decided that at this stage. With a character, their past and family members are integral to who they are and I wanted to do Nyssa justice.

Q) Were you familiar with any of your co-stars before joining the series?

A) I’d met Georgina [Campbell] (Lyta-Zod) a couple of times. It was great to see a familiar face in my screen-test. Georgina was the first one cast and I think I was the second, but she instantly made me feel really relaxed. I was a fan of her work so knew I wanted to work with her and it has been an absolute pleasure. She is such a wonderful person off screen, as well as an incredibly talented and giving actress.

Q) Was there anyone in the cast you didn’t get to work with much or at all that you’d like some scenes with in the future?

A) I would love to have more scenes with Shaun Sipos (who plays Adam Strange). We’re really close off-screen and so I would love to bring that chemistry onto set between our characters. I think Strange and Nyssa could have a great, dynamic relationship.

Q) What have been some of your most memorable moments from filming “Krypton?”

A) There have been so many! I’ll never forget the time we had in Serbia. It was the first time we all met as a cast. We were all staying in the same hotel and socializing every night, so we had some very, very funny moments that we still laugh about today. Everyone has such big personalities but we all fit together so well. It was an incredibly fun, and surreal, month.

Q) What do you think it is about the series that has intrigued so many viewers?

A) I think it’s because we’re treading on untouched soil. We’re walking a path that hasn’t been trodden but is well known and heavily referenced. Every fan has heard of Krypton, but they don’t necessarily know the true story in such detail… Until now!

Q) You are a part of social media. Have you been enjoying the instant fan feedback to episodes?

A) Instant feedback can be both helpful and detrimental. You need to choose which comments to listen to and constructively take on board, as well as which opinions to take with a pinch of salt.

Q) You have played some fierce females. What is it about these characters you really relate to and resonate with?

A) I love a strong female. I think it channels the kind of women I looked up to when I was younger, as well as the person I aspire to be when I grow up. When I looked up strong female characters and the actresses behind them, they really inspired me and gave me the strength and the courage to make certain decisions I made and I would love to have a similar impact on the next generation.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you so much. It means the world to have people appreciate your work – especially when you’re so passionate about it. There’s plenty more coming up so stick around!
