WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

Human Telegraphs is a brand-new comedy web series following three roommates in New York City forced to think quickly when they hit financial trouble and get themselves evicted. The clever minds that make up Three Bright Lights (Fern Lim, Rachel Kay Barclay and Kayla Conroy) also star in the series as Trisha, Lily and Margot. With a goal to incorporate strong female characters and defy the stereotypical roles of women in comedy, I went into this series knowing I was in for a treat.

In order to solve their money problems Trisha, Lily and Margot come up with the brilliant idea to become human messengers and start delivering messages verbatim to whoever, wherever and in whatever style the customer wants. The completely custom aspect of their business model seems like a great idea, but it leads to them sharing extremely personal and sometimes too intimate messages with strangers. As they navigate through their new business venture, trying to keep their Yelp reviews positive, their messages range from awkward and strange to beaming with heart and everything in between.

It was hard for me to pick a favorite episode because each one was enjoyable. The series is so strong all around that I’m not sure what to highlight the most. I think the real stand out is the chemistry between the actresses who play off each other effortlessly. Everything felt natural, like I was eavesdropping on conversations rather than watching them play out on a show. The rapid fire one liners and constant back and forth made me feel like I was one of them and it was clear how well the trio works together on and off the screen.

This female-driven series is as charming as it is quirky and it’s a whole ton of fun. The premise is just wild enough to lead to situations that are equally uncomfortable and entertaining, and I found myself loving every ridiculous second. It also left me with my new favorite excuse, “That could’ve happened to anybody, especially during a Mercury retrograde.” If you’re a comedy fan, someone who loves an authentically zany New York City experience or you’re just looking to support some hilarious female creators, you should check our Human Telegraphs.
