Web Series Wednesday – Skirtchasers

What? Skirtchasers.

Who? Written by James Berg and Stan Zimmerman. Starring: Elizabeth Keener, Barry Bostwick, Meredith Baxter, Shaughn Buchholz, Katie Walder, JJ Totah, Clementine Ford and Valery M. Ortiz.

Why Should I Watch? A catchy theme song by Lea Delaria, a dysfunctional father-daughter dynamic, a hilarious script and a stellar cast are just a few reasons why Skirtchasers should be on your web series watch list.

Written by James Berg and Stan Zimmerman who both have written for The Golden Girls and Gilmore Girls with four out of the five episodes directed by Amanda Bearse AKA Marcy D’Arcy from Married with Children, the series already brings a veteran crew.

The series follows Robyn Samuels (Keener) as she tries to steer through life after her engagement comes to an end. Relationships seem to be a theme as we get to see Robyn’s dynamic with those close to her, mainly her best friend/co-worker Bryce (Buchholz), her mother Lilah (Baxter) and most importantly her father, Damien (Bostwick).

Before we get to the good stuff, I want to talk about Lilah’s character because she’s practically every gay person’s dream of a parent. She’s supportive and while her offhand comments on her daughter being a lesbian are borderline stereotypical, she’s pretty damn hilarious and Baxter has a hell of a way of delivering such a light and comedic vibe to the series.

Does this look like the face of someone who suffers from CDD, Chronic Daddy Damage?!

Now back to her relationship with her father, it’s pretty clear that Robyn’s suffering from some sort of daddy issues but it isn’t quite what you think at first. Without giving too much away, audiences follow Robyn as she searches for the reasoning behind her fear of commitment which she traces all the way back to, yeah you guessed it, her dad. One of the things that shocked me the most was the way my sympathy shifted a few times between Robyn and Damien. So will Robyn ever get to be happy? You’ll just have to tune in and see!

Where Can I Watch? The five-episode series is exclusively on tello films. While a subscription is needed, the $4.99 is definitely worth it. And if the witty one-liners between Bostwick and Keener aren’t incentive enough to join, a subscription also gives you access to the tons of other web series that tello has to offer.
