WHAT? The Sixth Sense

WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

The Sixth Sense is a brand new comedy web series about the strange and spooky side effects from a new strand of marijuana. The new strand apparently makes people see ghosts, so naturally it’s dubbed “The Sixth Sense.” Written, directed and starring comedian Prince Jahlil (also known as Tahree Carroll), The Sixth Sense is a promising new show bursting with wit and Philly charm.

The character Jahlil likes two things; writing jokes and smoking weed. The pilot episode opens with him workshopping jokes for his standup routine in his bathroom mirror and, in truly relatable fashion, he thinks he’s earned a break after only a few minutes. We’ve all been there and those first hilarious moments already had my interest peaked. The joke he was working on was amusing on its own, but the fact that coming up with one had him convincing himself he deserved a break sold me. Jahlil’s version of a break includes his favorite recreational activity and when his usual hook up is out of town he’s forced to settle for something else. Something new – The Sixth Sense. Jahlil doubts the quality and definitely doesn’t believe he’ll be seeing any ghosts because of it, but it got its name for a reason.

The series is full of funny relatable moments including Jahlil nearly collapsing on a fence because he’s walking up hill in the snow is a feeling I know all too well. Every time he’s talking to himself in the mirror I feel seen. There’s so much character in Jahlil’s portrayal of his fictional self that I feel like I know him personally. The scenes are also shot in such a beautiful way that makes the show simultaneously cinematic and like I’m right there in the room.

If you’re a fan of stoner comedies, especially ones like How High, check out The Sixth Sense. But you don’t have to be a smoker to enjoy this series as any person in need of a life will find something enjoyable here. It’s a zany concept, but Carroll pulls it off so well.
