WHY SHOULD I WATCH?

“We know we’re great, we just have to get our brains to believe us.” An always relatable quote from Lauren (Lauren Hobbs) in the very first episode of Two Dimes perfectly sums up what the comedic web series is about. The show follows Lauren and her best friend Blair (Blair Peyton) as they set out to prove they’re more than a dime a dozen. In fact, they’re double.

While trying to make their dreams come true in New York City, they’re also navigating their friendships and the dating world along the way. Lauren and Blair lean on each other in the traditional borderline codependent way that makes series like this one so amusing. I’m a huge fan of shows that highlight the realistic aspects of friendships; the random conversations, the general need to overshare and the perfect mix of love and support with slight judgement and the series succeeds. It’s clear that both Lauren and Blair are actual friends and their real-life chemistry translates very well on screen. They also discuss going to therapy. And while the sessions are often played for laughs due to the zany behavior of the therapists, I appreciate the need for therapy not being mocked. It’s a good way to normalize something the world can benefit from.

According to the series’ website Two Dimes was shot on an iPhone 6s. Still, the show manages to produce high quality entertainment and I respect Hobbs and Peyton’s dedication to creating their story. It’s a true passion project and I’ll always support creators working towards reaching their goals. The story and characters are there, you don’t need an expensive camera to get those across.

The series is funny and enjoyable and I can see it appealing to just about anyone. It also gave me my favorite quotes I’ve heard in a web show, “I hate when hot people are funny.” The second season of Two Dimes is coming soon, so it’s the perfect time to check out this unique little series.
