Web Series Wednesday – Valentine’s Day
By: @freegolaw
Happy Valentine’s Day! This particular Valentine’s Day, for the first time ever, I am in love and have a valentine! This means I have fully embraced this holiday from everything from the candy to the glitter covered hearts. So, instead of our regularly scheduled Web Series Wednesday article, I have decided to help you set the mood this Valentine’s Day with my top picks of web series to view with your valentine!
Carmilla
What could be better than a love story between an eager do-gooder and a 300+ year old vampire? At first glance, the romantic connection between college student Laura (Elise Bauman) and new roommate Carmilla (Natasha Negovanlis) could be attributed to opposites attract. However, the more you watch the more you will realize that Laura and Carmilla are far more similar than either of them will admit. This series has a particularly special place in my heart because it was my gateway web series. It is also the main reason that I went to ClexaCon in 2017, an experience that has completely changed my life. As Laura and Carmilla fall more and more in love with each other so will you and your valentine…Also, stick around for Laura, Carmilla and their friends battle personal demons, actual demons and giant fish God.

Swerve
If you are like Elise (Sharon Belle), you have the tendency to just “swerve” from your current life path and start fresh. It’s easier to swerve when you don’t care who you leave behind. Web series Swerve starts off with Elise abandoning her current job and living situation and setting out on the road with only what will fit in her backpack. Luckily for her, she is picked up by Jen (Kat Inokai). Probably the most caring person she has ever met. Unluckily for her, going with Jen leads to her meeting Stevie (Emily Alatalo) – someone who will make it very difficult for Elise to leave everything in her new life behind. As Stevie and Elise share what may be the most intense eye contact I have ever witnessed, you will be provided with the perfect opportunity to look over at your valentine and do the same.

Unfortunatly Ashly
If you and your valentine prefer a quirkier approach to romance, then this is the web series for you! It was both awkwardness and love at first sight for Ashly [Perez] and Avery (Francesca Galassi). However, the course of true love never did run smoothly. While the audience may know that these two are perfect for each other right away, it takes Ashly and Avery a little bit longer to come to the same conclusion.
WHERE CAN I WATCH? Unfortunatly Ashly can be found at Buzz Feed at https://www.buzzfeed.com/ashlyperez/you-can-watch-all-of-unfortunatly-ashly-right-here-so-do-it?utm_term=.pojAzykBM#.ysMpa8YNV and on YouTube.
Barbelle
What better way to set the mood for a romantic evening then by watching two people with undeniable chemistry sing love songs together? Barbelle follows the story of two pop star sensations and former lovers, Veronica Vale (Karen Knox) and Alice O’Hara (Gwenlyn Cumyn) who have now broken up. Unfortunately for them, due to contractual obligations, they must pretend that they are still a happy couple. Enjoy this web series that is filled with humor, music, romance, absurdity, heart and heartbreak.
