Q) How did you get the idea for Good Kisser?

A) I often start writing a story after I fall in love with an image, an object in a setting or a character doing something specific. With Good Kisser, I saw a woman eating melon while sitting in the light from an open refrigerator. That became Jenna, the protagonist. I’ve been writing female and queer characters for a long time and Jenna developed quickly in my heart, as someone going through emotional panic.

Q) What was it like wearing the hats of both writer and director?

A) It’s fairly easy to flow from writing the screenplay and directing the movie because it’s takes a chunk of time between accomplishing the writing and raising the money and the gathering the film production team. I wrote and directed the features, Jamie & Jessie are Not Together, two seasons of “Easy Abby” web series and a dozen short films before that. So, it’s become natural for me to imagine who and what I’m looking for in casting actors for the characters and what physical and emotional qualities instinctively “fit” to me.

Q) How long did the idea of Good Kisser take to go from concept to creating a motion picture?

A) 3 years (Concept, developing script, revising script, fundraising, pitching, casting, location scouting, crew hiring, shooting, editing, sound design, original music composition, color correction, titles, closed captioning….)

Q) How would you describe Good Kisser to someone who hasn’t seen it yet?

A) “Good Kisser is about a woman in a lesbian love triangle who experiences intense lust, love, and loss all in one night.”

Q) If you had to identify each of the main three characters under the LGBTQTIA+ umbrella, how would you identify each and why?

A) I see Kate and Jenna as lesbian women. Mia likely identifies as bisexual and sapiosexual. (attracted to intellectual connection).

Q) Is there a story from the set of Good Kisser that you can share with our readers?

A) This was a 12-day shoot! (14 days with day off every 4 days) We had to shoot 5pm-5am, which made it even more challenging for cast and crew in terms of sleep being thrown off. The cast, especially the main three women, were still wonderfully prepared and did an awesome job supporting each other scene by scene. This movie truly relies on the chemistry between the love triangle women, and it took months for me to find each of those actors, to fit well together and bring that believable chemistry to the screen.

Q) What would you like the audience to take away from Good Kisser?

A) Hopefully, viewers will be entertained, drawn into the drama and walk away feeling a bit turned on and hopeful!

Q) How was your ClexaCon experience?

A) ClexaCon was a delightful weekend experience! Screening a sneak peek of Good Kisser was wonderful because it was a room full of one of our target audiences, smart, fun, queer women!

Q) When will Good Kisser to the public and where can they find it?

A) Good Kisser world premiere was May 17 at the Seattle Int’l Film Festival, which kicks of festival circuit which rolls through most of 2019 and folks can see WHERE it screens next on our website and Instagram. It will also be in select theaters in cities in North America this summer. Then, it will be available on Netflix and likely Hulu after that!
