You’re The Worst – We Were Having Such A Nice Day

It is 24 hours before Jimmy (Chris Geere) and Gretchen (Aya Cash)’s wedding. They have finally finished everything to do on their list. Gretchen comments on how she can do absolutely anything she wants now and Jimmy won’t leave her. She even knocks over a glass as a metaphor, saying the broken glass is her and Jimmy should clean it up because he will always be there for her. Keep this is mind for later. Lindsay (Kether Donohue) is spending the day with Gretchen and Edgar (Desmin Borges) is spending the day with Jimmy. Lindsay has planned the perfect day for them, everything at home, including mani-pedis. It is then ruined when Gretchen’s mom (Rebecca Tilney) knocks on the door. Lindsay doesn’t want to be around her at all and leaves Gretchen with her.

Edgar takes Jimmy to do something he has always wanted to do, ice curling. They both fail miserably trying to do it very seriously, but have a good time. The montage is honestly hilarious, just Jimmy and Edgar trying oh so seriously at this game with rap music playing.

As Lindsay is on her way home, she runs into Paul (Allan McLeod).

Gretchen and her mom are talking when Gretchen realizes she hasn’t told her mom she is marrying Jimmy and not her boyfriend before. She says she knows this because she is not an idiot, but still came because it is her daughter getting married. Gretchen finds this endearing until her mom ruins this by saying her and Gretchen’s father have always had front row seats to all of Gretchen’s mistake.

The next stop for Edgar and Jimmy is a Rage Zone, where you can break objects like TVs and glasses, etc. Edgar brings out a model with a picture of Jimmy’s dad on it. Instead of hitting it, he hugs it and tells it that he is getting married.

Paul thinks Becca (Janet Varney) is ruining his baby by not following a rigorous meal plan. She threatens Paul for more money by trying to say she wants to keep the baby. He decides to trick her and instead say that maybe he doesn’t want it as much as he thought. She admits she was bluffing and he comes back with an offer of twenty thousand dollars. She says she will kill herself if he doesn’t do thirty thousand dollars. He offers fifteen thousand dollars and they agree. He tells Lindsay she can call him if she needs anything or just to talk. He leaves and she immediately calls him – not because she wants him to come back, but she just wants to talk.

Gretchen confesses to her mother all the bad things she has done throughout her life. She thinks that if her mother would have helped or stopped her when she was growing up she wouldn’t be the way she is now. She tried to kill herself when she was younger and she always struggled with depression, but no one ever did anything to try and help her. Her mother says that no one is going to listen to hear talk about her problems, care about her or try and help her. She says that even if she pushes her mother away that she will never push Jimmy away.

Jimmy and Edgar continue their amazing day by going to a fancy party they know they aren’t fancy enough to be at, but everyone accepts them anyways. They smoke cigars and drink. Jimmy confesses that he knows Edgar is an amazing friend to him and should have given him that credit years ago. Jimmy knows Edgar always saw him for his worth and that he has always been his best friend. Edgar is glad he said this because he thinks Jimmy can now handle the truth. Edgar says not to marry Gretchen because they are going to ruin each other. They might love each other but are not good for each other. Jimmy immediately disagrees with Edgar and tells him he never wants to see him again.

Back at their house Gretchen is clearly upset from what happened with her mom but makes herself feel better by looking at pictures of her and Jimmy. She then accidentally steps on the glass…from the cup that she knocked over earlier – the glass Jimmy was supposed to clean up. This is the metaphor for their relationship now. She winces in pain as her foot is bleeding heavily.
