Alona Tal – Supernatural

Q.  What are some of the recent projects that you’ve been working on?

A.  I think you know about some of the projects like “CSI,” “Cold Case,” “7th Heaven” and “Commander In Chief.”  I did a little, itty bitty movie calledJustified.  I am doing a reoccurring role on “Supernatural” and a movie called Taking Five.  I am starting that next week.

Q.  What can you tell us about the premise for Taking Five and about your character?

A.  Two geeky teens kidnap a world famous boyband in an attempt to make them play at their high school and boost the girls popularity.  I get to play one of those geeky teens, one of those outsider teenagers that come up with the brilliant idea of kidnapping a boyband.  The band is not necessarily like ‘Nsync, it can be like a rock boyband, a band with all boys.  They are actually using a real band called The Click Five.

Q.  What can you tell us about the role in “Supernatural” that you’ll be playing?

A.  Well, they are introducing a bunch of new characters.  One of them is my character, I play the daughter of a roadhouse owner who knew their dad.  They come across us and I’m very familiar with the whole hunting world.  I’m basically somewhat of a hunter myself, I’m a tough girl.  I don’t take a lot crap from anybody, I’m not your typical girly girl.  I’m very familiar with guns and knives and the boys have somewhat of a different experience with me.

Q.  Did you have to go through any weapons training for the role?

A.  I did go through some training; I am sure I will go through more.  I am familiar with some things, like some guns and such, but not a lot of things.  I’ve had to go through some little training with what I wasn’t familiar with but not a lot so far.  I am hoping to deal with more things, it’ll be fun, I’m looking forward to action work.  Getting to do what the boys do, if I get to do it ever, I’d love to.

Q.  With working on “Supernatural,” will there be some changes viewers can see with season two?

A. I wouldn’t know if they’re changing the show.  The boys are going through a lot, they’ve gone through a lot.  The show gives you all of these twists and surprises.  You can keep expecting those surprises and twists having to do with whether it’s supernatural things or non-supernatural things; they are rolling with the punches.  Sam’s not going to all of a sudden get a completely different show.  I don’t know if you saw the first episode, but that was a great episode!  So, it’s the same feel for the viewers but just everybody has grown a little bit.

Q.  What was it about the role on “Supernatural” that really made you want to be a part of the show?

A. Like I said, it’s a wonderful show.  I’ve heard a lot of great things about it and I love to work.  Honestly, I’m not somebody who just goes “No, I don’t want to work.”  You know me, last time we talked I was just hoping to have the privilege of working again.  This is a privilege as far as I am concerned.  It’s very well written, it’s fun, it’s also light and heavy at the same time.  It’s just a whole other experience that I have not done before.  There are not a lot of shows like that out there.

Q.  It seems like fans are already responding to your character even though none of your episodes have aired already.

A.  Fans get into the show so much. I understand that they are afraid of change. But, on the other hand, maybe if the show stays the same they might say that they want some change.  It’s just they’re nervous; I was nervous.  That’s understandable.  They love something so much that they’re afraid of something ruining it and they won’t love it as much.  If that something happens to be my character; then fine.  They might not like me after they see me; that’s a possibility.  It’s difficult getting used to someone new anywhere.  There are two ways it can go. They either like me or they don’t; they’re taking a chance.  But, without taking chances you aren’t going to get very much.  They’re always going to be different opinions.  You can’t always please everyone I think.  I am not speaking on behalf of anybody but myself.  The producers have other ways of making choices when it comes to the show.  I have no idea what those ways and choices are.  I have no idea what makes them make those choices.  I know as far as I am concerned, as an actor, it’s a risk you take. There are always going to be people that won’t like you. And that goes for anyone, actor or not. It’s life. I’d like to focus on the people who do like me.

Q.  Do you have a really memorable moment from working on the show?

A.  From behind the scenes, the crew and the two lead guys are so funny.  Whoever hasn’t had the chance to see the first season DVDs, if you get it, there is a gag reel at the end.  And also – “A Day In The Life of Jared and Jensen” and that is basically them.  They are funny and fun and pull pranks on everyone.  That’s really memorable!  It’s such a light, fun experience.  There are moments from behind the scenes when I couldn’t stop laughing.  That doesn’t happen that often.

Q.  Has anything about the role on “Supernatural” been challenging for you?

A.  Its all challenging. One of the challenging things is that it is a lot more physical then normally.  That’s why I like the show, because it’s very physical and there is a lot of running and jumping and all of that.  That’s a different aspect to get used to.  It’s never not challenging.  If it’s not challenging; don’t do it.

Q.  What do you think it is about the show that continues to draw viewers in?

A.  In my personal life I believe in a lot of supernatural things and a lot of things you can’t explain.  Because the show deals with those things and a lot of urban myths and folklores, it kind of touches a cord with people.  Even though they don’t want to believe they are afraid of it.  Everybody is afraid of the dark, everybody has that fear that there is something that they don’t know and can’t explain. They write it very real and full of humor so its not always scary, but when it comes to the supernatural part, its very serious.  They don’t just give you this phenomenon without giving you an explanation to it.  So, it becomes real to you .  People are drawn to it.  It’s interesting, it’s something we can’t explain and the show deals with that, I think that’s the appeal.  Besides the fact that it’s written very well and you have two gorgeous and talented cast members.  That doesn’t hurt!

Q.  What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?

A.  Remember when I told you I couldn’t believe I had one person that was a fan?  It’s still beyond my comprehension! It’s amazing.  It’s unbelievable, thank you!  It’s the same response as last time.  It still shocks me that I even have two or three people, cuz maybe from last time it’s not one person, it’s two or three that appreciate my work.  That appreciate what I do and back me up.  It’s always nice to have somebody back you up!  I enjoy throwing the punches out there.  If they enjoy it; my work is complete.
