The Glass Child – Coming Home

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Some sort of alternative pop with ambient influences.

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) I listen to so much music in all kinds of genres and scenes! Some of the very first bands I discovered, that I still love and listen to, are Bright Eyes, Counting Crows, Copeland, Ani Difranco and Damien Rice. I could go on and on…

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “This Lonely Town.”

A) This song is about the last two years I’ve lived in Hamburg, Germany. It’s about missing, longing and watching the world spin by outside your window.

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I hope people who have known missing, that unbearable feeling in your chest that won’t go away, can listen to it and feel a little lighter for three min.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) It’s different every time, really. There is no magic formula or any rules to songwriting. But it always starts with this explosion of emotions that makes me want to sit down and write it all, in order to kind of understand what it is I’m feeling or experiencing or want to say. Often it feels like things aren’t real until I get to write about it.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I write and produce all my own music and have produced all my records. My new forthcoming EP, Coming Home, is the very first release that I haven’t produced myself. My old friend from home in Sweden, Christofer Carlson, has done the same journey as me within music. I moved to London to become a songwriter and he moved to LA to become a music producer. It feels so special to have worked on this EP with him since he knows me since before this journey started.

Q) What can fans expect from a live The Glass Child performance?

A) My live shows are very intimate and personal. I love interacting with my audience and I try to lose myself in my songs and the moment.

Q) What songs off your Coming Home EP are you looking forward to performing live?

A) I released the first lead single, also called “Coming Home,” just in time for my UK tour by the start of September. It was amazing to get to sing this song every night and make it come alive!

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from listening to your new EP as a whole?

A) This whole EP circles around the concept of searching for some sort of home, a place of belonging. And by doing this journey on my own, living like a wanderer the last couple of years, I’ve come to understand that you can’t build your home in a city, a house, a person or material belongings: you have to build your home in moments. I’m learning to build my home in moments of standing on a stage, sharing my story – or while sharing a coffee somewhere silent in the morning or in a conversation with a stranger. I hope people will listen to the EP and feel lighter, inspired and at peace.

Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?

A) Edinburgh is one of my favorite places so that’s always special. My show in Manchester during my last UK tour was magical. So, that’s a new favorite, too.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) Oh so many…Adam Duritz would be magical. Or Ben Harper. I’ve always dreamt of featuring on a song with a band like Mayday Parade, The Maine or You Me At Six. I love those bands so that would be amazing.

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I think Lorde’s new album is absolute perfection! I love it. I’ve been listening to Julia Michaels’ new EP. I think she’s super talented and I love her productions. My friend Esther Turner has some new singles out too that I’ve been playing on repeat!

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) As an artist without a major label behind me, to fund a big marketing campaign, buy banner, etc. social media is the only way for me to reach out with my music. It also enables me to have a beautiful and personal relationship with the people who like my music and what I do. They are the reason to why I can do this and I love talking to them all over the internet.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I’d say: Go do that thing you love and dream of doing more of. There is nothing more beautiful than people who spend their days doing what they love. They have glitter in their eyes, and you can be one of them.
