Allexa Bash – Spin of the Moment
By: Lisa Steinberg
Q) How would you describe your sound?
A) It’s a mix of old and modern. To be honest, I’m an old school girl. So, in my music I combine old-school classic rock sounds fused with electronica. This is the best way to describe my sound.
Q) Who are some of your musical influences?
A) There are a lot of them, and they come from different parts of my life. I’m a big fan of rock legends like Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith. I admired the stage presence of Michael Jackson. Also, as a young girl I looked up to Madonna and Whitney Houston. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be them if you are a singer? More recently Rihanna and Adele have been power women I have looked up to!
Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Spin of the Moment.” What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?
A) “Spin of the Moment” is a very special song for me that incorporates multiple layers. It has a secret X-factor. It can be interpreted in so many ways as the song can represent something different for each person. It makes people question themselves who you are, why are you here, what is your darkness, what is your light, what is your truth? “Spin of the Moment” is about looking into the mirror of your soul.
Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?
A) We are still working on the video for “Spin of the Moment.” I think it will come out when the time is right. The message of the song is very deep, and it raises a lot of questions in different levels of the human being. So, we are waiting for the right person that can show this idea in a unique way.
Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?
A) Oh, it’s an interesting process and even painful sometimes because you have to feel all the emotions that are pushing you to write the song. Very often they are painful emotions. This is the only way to have a real and honest song.
Usually, I just sit next to the piano when I feel this call and the melody comes right away with the lyrics, often they are only pieces of words, but I know what the song will be about right away in the moment.
Q) How much of a hand do you have in the production of your music?
A) It’s a team effort. There are three of us – my co-producer, sound engineer and myself.
Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?
A) Oh yes. Definitely. We are still working on it. The great thing is that every song is a part of a bigger That’s why I decided to connect them all into an album.
Q) With concerts currently on hold, what do you miss most about being on stage?
A) What I miss the most is to actually be on stage. It was fine at the beginning of the lockdown, because I had a lot of time to create and record music. But now I feel it has become too long. So, every part of my body wants to perform again, to feel those awesome vibes when you give something to the people – I think it’s really important. To be honest, when I’m on stage I’m in the zone. I feel more comfortable and confident on stage than behind it. Drive, crazy vibes, connection with the audience, it just has to be there!
Q) Where are some of your favorite places to perform and what makes those locations so significant to you?
A) I like to perform on big stages, high stages, when there’s a lot of people and open air. Stadiums would be good when all comes back to normal.
Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?
A) Well, to be honest, I would like to collaborate with Sting. He is a great musician. When I was eighteen years old, I used to listen to his tracks a lot. I still remember one song that really made a big impression on me. It’s called “Tomorrow Will See.”
Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?
A) Good question. I am listening to “The Queen of Soul” – Aretha Franklin right now. There’s a lot of wisdom in this kind of music. So, I’m taking my inspiration from there now.
Q You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?
A) Yes, I am a part of social media and, yes, social media nowadays is very important. It’s a great opportunity to deliver your music and message to your fans around the world and to communicate with them directly. I still think that it’s just ONE of the tools that helps you deliver your music, but it will never replace the live communication and live performance.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?
A) Stick around, it’s gonna be interesting.
