Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) Urban pop with an alternative flair

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) Heavily influenced by 80s and 90s era of Madonna, Michael & Janet Jackson as well as currently Kaytranada & Dr Dre Productions.

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Fuck It I’m Good.”

A) Originally released in 2019 off my first solo Ep entitled AMY818 – it was the first song I wrote personally out of my home studio. I wanted to really cater this sound to where I was at the time – leaving old relationships behind and embarking on this music journey as solo artist not giving a fuck what anyone thinks but being authentic to what makes me happy!

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

A) I feel my fans appreciate me finally letting go of trying to fit in a box and experimenting with sounds and vibes. It’s also the first time I really let my hair down with my sensuality and invite others into that side of me.

Q) How does the video for the track play into the message behind it?

A) The video shows all the different sides of my sensuality.  I normally play myself down with tomboy style, but for this video i wanted every look to be me on 1000% not giving a fuck serving looks.  It’s more polished and extra which is not usually my vibe. I’ve done four videos with no makeup on in Joshua Tree in 110 degrees. [laughs]

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) Like Michael Jackson said, stay out of the music’s way. Let it come to you – songs usually write themselves. My songwriting process is different on each project I work on. I used to write everything on the spot with other great writers.  But lately I’ve been letting melodies come first – I drive around listening to what I’ve come up with and wait for the moments that make me feel something. I then go back to work on the lyrics after I have a strong melody.

I prefer having music before I have lyrics, but there have been times where lyrics and melody came to me in a moment before a track was even presented – and then we made a song to a hook idea.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) I produced “F*ck it I’m Good” with another amazing producer Pierre Pyer, but on a lot of my currently released tracks I have focused more on writing and not producing. On my next album, I am working directly with every producer on the production and every part of the process so I can bring a deeper more intimate side of me to the world.  My brothers are both accomplished producers and have trained me to have a good ear and know every production DAW so I can be a better artist.

Q) How do you usually shake off a long day in the studio?

A) I spend the day off at home with my husband and two Bengal cats. We usually watch sitcoms all day and make homemade burgers. [smiles] It’s nice to be lazy and just chill for a whole day.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I’d love to work with Bruno Mars and Anderson Pack! These two are the perfect blend of indie and pop and I feel we would explode on some new timeless vibes.

Q) We’ve loved seeing you on our TV and movie screens. Do you have any upcoming film projects you’ve been working on?

A) I’m currently working on a cartoon I’m not allowed to share the details about, but you will hear a very fun Puerto Rican side of me on a really cute character soon!

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s a direct connection to my fans and allows me a time to show different sides of me. For example, I love sharing my taste in music on Tik Tok and sharing fun moments with my husband on Instagram, but love going live on YouTube and Facebook playing live music.  I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the amazing fans that always uplift me and champion me to keep going! They are amazing and I can’t wait to give them a bad ass live show.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Your feedback has helped me through some really traumatic times in my life!  I tear up writing this…but it’s true.  I value every one of you so much! I literally do what I do to inspire you and connect on a deeper level. Thank you for supporting me since the jump! We going on this journey together.
