B Positive – Canine Extraction

The episode opens with Gina (Annaleigh Ashford) watching an exercise video while snacking on chips. She gets a call from Dr. Pete (Joe Tapper), who wants an update on Cannoli the dog. He is ready to pick him up in  a few days, which upsets Gina.

Drew (Thomas Middleditch) chases Cannoli, who is eating his shoe. Gina fills him on on everything and admits she has three days to start and finish teaching Cannoli new tricks. However, it doesn’t go over too well since he refuses to pay attention when she teaches him how to roll over. Drew walks in on this and makes fun of her.

Gina asks him for help, but he says he has plans to see the ducks with Maddie. It is their yearly tradition, which Gina says is cute. However, when Maddie (Izzy G) arrives, she doesn’t want to go because her friend Bella is coming over.

Later on Maddie and Bella (Mirabelle Lee) sneak into the garage to steal some of Gina’s beer. Gina ends up catching them and acts like a grown up by telling them she has to tell Drew. Before she does that she asks Gabby (Kether Donahue) for advice. Gabby doesn’t see it as a big deal, but Gina says she has no choice but to tell.

Drew comes home and Gina fills him in on what happened. This leads to Maddie getting mad at Gina and being punished. Later on Gina reminds him that Maddie is becoming her own person, while Drew looks back on old pictures of his daughter and remembers how things were when she was little.

The next day Gina tells Drew that Dr. Pete is on his way, but he is not ready to give up Cannoli. This leads to them attempting to dognap the pooch.

They decide to let someone take him for a few weeks, which steers them towards trying to have one of the people at dialysis take him. Samantha (Briga Heelan) falls in love, but refuses to take him. Eli (Terrence Terrell) and Jerry (David Anthony Higgins) also say no, which leads to everyone wondering why they want to dognap the pup. They try to explain, but Gideon (Darryl Stephens) convinces them to do the right thing by channeling Abe Lincoln from his one man show.

Gina continues to get in touch with Drew while at work. She fills Norma (Linda Lavin) and Mr. Knudsen (Bernie Kopell) in on everything and wonders why Drew suddenly loves Cannoli. Norma explains that he is transferring his feelings for something else onto the dog. Gina begins to understand while Mr. Knudsen keeps making up words for their Scrabble game.

Drew is at the duck park eating ice cream with Cannoli when Gina finds him. He is upset that things are changing and talks to Gina about how he wishes time could slow down. She tells him to embrace the moments he has now.

Maddie joins them so they can take their yearly picture. Drew says there are no ducks, but Maddie confesses that she is only doing it so her mom will give her phone back.

The episode ends with Drew and Samantha FaceTiming with Cannoli. Samantha and Dr. Pete flirt a bit until she realizes he isn’t a rich doctor.
