Q) How would you best describe your sound?

A) I would say my sound is a mixture of classic country music, folky songwriter, heavily influenced by old school bluegrass, although the bluegrass in less apparent now than it used to be the roots run very deep.

Q) Who are your Top 3 musical influences?

A) Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris, and the Stanley Brothers

Q) Tell us the story about your new single “Flowers on My Bedside.”

A) “Flowers on My Bedside” is a song for empowerment. I wrote it when I was in a sad place and it was a very healing experience, to take a hard situation and turn it into something that feels creatively inspiring.

Q) “Flowers on My Bedside” is the latest single off your upcoming album Among Other Things, which is coming out in April. What are some themes will you be exploring on it?

A) I talk a lot about the experience of womanhood and what my relationship with it looks like. I classically talk about love and loss and naturally I mention flowers more than I probably should.

Q) I absolutely love “Flowers on My Bedside!” Which song(s) were your favorite to write and record for Among Other Things?

A) Thank you! I loved the process of writing and recording the songs “Numbers” and “Worth My While.” I felt like they both grew wings in very special ways.

Q) What do you hope lingers with listeners when they explore your music on this new album?

A) I hope the feeling of empowerment sticks around. I also want people to feel warm and cozy like they are wrapped up in their favorite blanket.

Q) What did it mean to you to perform at the prestigious SXSW festival?

A) It felt like a full circle moment! I’ve always heard about the festival, and it felt exciting to one involved.

Q) Aside from your own performance, which events did you enjoy most at SXSW?

A) I loved seeing The Deslondes and Whitehorse! Such special bands in a special venue.

Q) Who would you most love to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) There are too many artists that I love to choose. To be honest, all of my creative friends.
