Blindspot – Let It Go

Kira Evans (Gloria Reuben) yells at Roman (Luke Mitchell) for his failed plan, declaring that Crawford should have never trusted him with it. Roman tells her that Plan B is in motion, and asks her to let him work. She tells him he has twelve hours to regain her confidence. After she leaves, Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) appears and Roman shoots her. Jane reminds him that she is in his imagination, and reminds him he’s sick.

Edgar Reade (Rob Brown) welcomes Megan (Reshma Shetty) home and she asks if he called the caterer. He avoids the subject and she accuses him of not wanting to talk about the wedding. Reade assures her he’s still committed and promises to make several calls for the wedding. Jane panics when she can’t find Avery. As she tells Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton), Avery returns with bagels. Jane angrily tells her that she has to inform them when she’s leaving, and Avery declares that she’s still in a cell.

Reade asks Patterson (Ashley Johnson) if she’s fixed the tattoo database, but she tells her that she needs time. WhenPatterson mentions that the program is based on her father’s algorithm, Reade tells her to bring him in. Patterson rejects the idea, and gets notification that Bob Drabkin’s (Andrew Rogers) body washed ashore with multiple bullet wounds. She tells the team that his body showed evidence of being frozen, and suggests Roman did it to prior to shifting allegiances. Reade orders a full autopsy, and Jane decides to wait to tell Avery.

Dr. Elizabeth White (Kimberly Huie) shows them that a tattoo was added to Drabkin’s neck posthumously. Jane comments she has the same tattoo, and Patterson suggests that Roman is pointing them towards a clue inside Drabkin’s body. Patterson reaches into Drabkin’s mouth and pulls out a key, determining that the key matches up to the tattoo pattern to spell the Greek word Karon, the alias for an unidentified wanted assassin.

Patterson figures out that the key opens a locker at a law school, and Tasha Zapata (Audrey Esparza) tells them that Karon never meets his clients in person. Jane tells Avery about what happened to Drabkin. Avery asks where the assassin is, and Jane tells her they’re tracking him down. Avery suggests they use Karon to testify against Crawford and bring him down.

Megan greets Zapata, telling her that Reade canceled their lunch plans and makes a comment about the wedding. Zapata apologizes for not going, and Megan is surprised. Zapata lies that she has a CIA operation that day and excuses herself. Weller shows Patterson the camera they recovered from the locker, suggesting that Karon was using it to vet potential clients. Patterson says she’ll try to find the source the camera was transmitting to.

Bill Nye (Himself) walks in and Patterson says hello to her father. Weller can’t believe it, but Patterson tells him that Bill Nye is her father. Weller immediately shakes Bill’s hand and tells him he’s a huge fan. Reade asks why their last names are different and Bill explains that he and Patterson’s mother decided that the baby would inherit the mother’s last name if she were a girl. Jane asks who Bill is and Weller tells her that he’s a famous scientist before apologizing to Bill for Jane’s memory issues.

Zapata embraces Bill upon seeing him. Reade is surprised that Zapata knew who Patterson’s father was, and Zapata explains they had dinner once. Patterson explains that Bill developed the algorithm for the tattoo database, and Bill makes a corny joke that causes Jane to comment that Patterson is like her father. Patterson announces that she needs to get to work, and Weller offers his assistance. Patterson asks how he could help them, and Weller offers to hand him the tools.

Megan asks Reade why Zapata isn’t coming to the wedding, and he tells her about Zapata’s confession. She gets mad that he didn’t tell her, and leaves. Patterson asks Bill how her mother is, and he tells her he doesn’t want to talk about her. Patterson struggles with the case, and Bill distracts her by talking about condensation. She is resistant to the technique, but finds that it helps her find the source of the camera feed.

Patterson tells the team that the camera goes to a comic book shop. Reade and Zapata go inside the store and Sheldon Cole (Zachery Byrd) tells them the owner is upstairs. An explosion is set off in the store and Jane chases Karon upon seeing him. Weller shoots him from the window, and Jane tackles him to the ground. Karon pulls out a knife and they fight, ending with Jane stabbing him in the chest. Jane apologizes to Weller for killing their only way to bring down Crawford.

Roman’s projection of Jane taunts him and asks why he’s working for Crawford. He defends himself, but Jane asks about his plan, reminding him that Crawford isn’t his father. Roman tells her that Crawford cares more about him than she does, but she tells him nobody cares about him more than her. A projection of Roman dressed in a sweater vest appears and tells them to stop arguing. Roman tells them he doesn’t want to talk about it, but Jane tells him their presence indicates he does.

Jane and Weller tell Sheldon that his boss was a wanted killer, and ask if there was a safe at the store. Sheldon tells them there wasn’t, but mentions that Karon had a lot of high-value comics. Weller suggests he was paid in comics, and Sheldon answers that he knows the comic titles. Avery gets a call from her godmother, Lynnette Belmont (Jennifer Esposito), and Jane leaves to give her privacy. Lynnette tells her she inherited a large life insurance policy and asks her to come and sign the papers. Avery tells her that she’ll think about it and hangs up.

Jane checks on Avery, who tells her that she wants to see Drabkin. As they stand over his body, Avery declares that she doesn’t want Drabkin’s money due to its Crawford connection. Jane suggests that Avery do good things with Drabkin’s money, and asks to go with her to sign the papers. Reade brings Megan flowers and asks to talk about what happened. Megan is upset he didn’t tell her, and suggests that Reade needed time to consider his options. Reade insists there is no other option, and Megan doubts that Reade has never had feelings for Zapata.

Patterson confronts Bill about his fight with her mother, telling him he’s being a baby. Bill tells her he’s upset that her mother is publishing a paper with his rival, Dr. Rodney McKay, but Patterson tells him she can conduct research with whoever she wants and to calm down and call her. Patterson gets a hit on the comics and she and Zapata discover that Karon was paid by Lynnette to kill Drabkin. Lynnette lets Jane and Avery into her house, and Avery reminisces over her time spent there as Lynnette sneakily jams the house signal. Megan blames herself for not seeing the situation, but Reade tells her there’s nothing to see. Reade gets a text, and makes her promise that she’ll be there when he returns.

Zapata informs Weller of the situation, and Patterson tells them that she can’t reach Jane or Avery. Lynnette, Avery, and Jane look at Avery’s baby pictures, and Lynnette comments that she doesn’t know who would want Drabkin dead. Jane comments that powerful people make a lot of enemies, and tells Lynnette that she can’t answer questions about the investigation. Avery gets ready to sign the papers, but recognizes the pen in her hand as identical to the one that Crawford gave to Drabkin. Lynnette lies that it’s Drabkin’s, but Avery tells her she has his pen. Avery accuses her of working for Crawford, and asks if she killed Drabkin. Lynnette starts shooting at them and Jane and Avery duck behind cover. Jane shoots at Lynnette after telling Avery to run, and Jane is shot in the arm as she attempts to follow.

Other gunmen join the fight and Avery remembers a secret room that Young Adam (Pierson Salvador) showed her as a kid. They run for the room and lock themselves inside. Avery panics about Jane’s arm, and they see Lynnette standing outside the room. Jane warns Lynnette that her team will arrive soon, but Lynnette declares she’s not leaving. She realizes there’s probably something locked in the room that Lynnette wants. As they spot a safe, the men outside start welding into the door.

Avery is worried about Jane’s arm and tells Jane that she can’t lose her as well. Jane gives instructions to Avery to help tie up the wound. The FBI arrives and Lynnette unjams the signal so they can call. Weller calls Lynnette and asks to speak to Jane and Avery. Lynnette tells him that they will be fine if he follows her instructions, promising to shoot if he doesn’t. She requests safe passage out of the country, and Weller agrees.

Zapata tells Reade that she thought Megan knew already, but Reade tells her he avoided telling her because he wanted to pretend it didn’t happen. Avery freaks out, but Jane hears the welders talking about stalling and realizes the FBI has arrived. She tells Avery they need to send a signal and decides to send a red smoke signal through the vent. Avery questions how they’re going to do that, but Jane tells her the objects in the room have the chemicals they need.

Weller asks Lynnette to release Avery, but she tells him nobody is being released until her terms are met. He negotiates a time frame, but tells Reade and Zapata that she’s stalling. Zapata notices the smoke signal and the team prepares to move in. The welders break through the door, but Jane hits them with a fire extinguisher. Avery runs and Weller shoots the welder.

Avery points a gun at Lynnette and demands to know if she plans to kill her like she did Drabkin. Lynnette insists she just wanted to know what she knew, and Avery yells at her for betraying Drabkin’s trust, questioning how involved she was in his death. Lynnette explains that Crawford thought that Drabkin was going to betray him, and that she couldn’t disobey. She apologizes, but Avery tells her she needs to pay for what she did. Jane talks her out of it, telling her that she can’t lose her either. Avery tearfully puts down the gun, and Jane embraces her as Lynnette is arrested.

Reade tells the team that Lynnette is denying any connection to Crawford, and they are frustrated that they have no new leads. Patterson tells them she recovered Lynnette’s laptop from the safe. Bill tells her that he is unable to fix the server, but she asks him to stay and help decrypt the laptop. He tells her that he has a date with her mother, and Patterson is thrilled they reconciled. Bill tells her that she should resolve things with Zapata, and tells her that he gathered from his investigation that she was just doing her job. Bill tries to say goodbye, but Patterson tells her not to say her first name out loud.

Weller cooks dinner for Jane and Avery, and Avery thanks Jane for talking her down. Jane tells her they make a good team, and Avery thanks her for not giving up on her. Jane tells her they’re family, and Patterson asks Zapata to help her with the laptop. Zapata agrees, and Patterson admits that she wants to be over things. Zapata tells her that’s good enough for her, and Reade comes home to find Megan packing up. She insists there’s nothing to talk about and that she’s leaving. Megan gives Reade his ring back, telling him he doesn’t have enough room in his life for her. She admits she doesn’t have enough room in her life either, and Reade gives her the card of an immigration attorney. Megan tells him that she’s coming out as undocumented in the newspaper, insisting she doesn’t want to hide who she is anymore.

Roman’s projection of Jane insults the Roman projection, but he replies he’s who Roman could have been if things were different. Jane asks why Roman’s holding onto a fantasy of a happy ending with Crawford. Roman tells her that he’s not listening to her, and projected Roman suggests that walking away would bring him happiness. Roman tells him it’s too late for that, and that Jane will find out something soon enough. Jane asks what he’s talking about, and Roman throws a suitcase at her. Kira walks in and tells Roman he’s out of time. Roman shows her the plan he’s constructed, and Kira tells him there’s no going back. Patterson hacks into Lynnette’s laptop and finds an email with secret access codes that reset daily, determining that Crawford is planning an attack tomorrow.
