Roman (Luke Mitchell) agrees to purchase some diamonds from a diamond broker (David Shih), but he ups the price. Roman threatens to turn him into the authorities and asks about his family before the broker agrees to the original deal. After Roman gets into a car with Hank Crawford (David Morse), he assures him that there were no serious problems. Roman hands him the diamonds, and Crawford compliments his work, asking how it feels to be on the right side of history.

As Tasha Zapata (Audrey Esparza) punches a punching bag, she replays her conversations with Patterson (Ashley Johnson) and Edgar Reade (Rob Brown). Kurt Weller (Sullivan Stapleton) and Patterson explain the tip they received from Roman to US Attorney Grant (Rachel Christopher). She argues that they don’t have any solid evidence, but Jane Doe (Jaimie Alexander) argues that this gala could be their opportunity to catch Crawford and Jean-Paul Bruyere (Bruce Davison). Zapata arrives late to the meeting, and Grant tells the team that their evidence needs to be solid. Jane and Patterson explain the security measures Blake Crawford (Tori Anderson) takes for her annual charity gala, and Reade tells Patterson to figure out the gala’s location.

As Weller and Jane research Bruyere, Avery (Kristina Reyes) asks to work with them on the investigation. She shows them her father’s files about Crawford, and Jane promises to get them analyzed. However, Avery wants to work together on it, but Jane warns her it’s too dangerous. Avery recognizes a photo of a yacht that she spent time on, and tells them that Bruyere’s wife was named Allison.

Jane finds an Allison Orenstein (Wendy Prior Fentress) on Patterson’s person of interest list and Avery identifies the picture of her. They find record that she flew into the airport specified on the gala invitation and assume that Bruyere will also be at the gala. Avery storms out when Jane tells her to leave, and Weller reminds Jane that she used to resist when he tried to bench her. He warns her that she needs to loosen her grip, and Jane admits she’s scared that Avery is so similar to her.

Reade asks Zapata if she’s avoiding him, and points out that she was late to the meeting and didn’t answer Patterson’s text message. Zapata tells him that she didn’t get a text message, and Reade sees that Patterson removed her from the text chain. Reade promises to handle it and Patterson shows them that Allison is linked to an unidentified terrorist. Jane makes a connection to a note Bruyere’s file and speculates that he is the terrorist. Patterson gets notification the Bruyere just received a large payment, and the team speculates that Crawford is funding his next terrorist attack.

Patterson shows the team evidence that Blake has hired Vanessa Baker (Jeanine Bartel) to plan the gala, and details all the conditions she needs to hack into her hard drive. Weller suggests that Reade be the one to go undercover and Reade takes Zapata when Jane refuses to go as well. Reade and Zapata visit Baker pretending to be a married couple while Patterson sits nearby on her laptop.

Reade and Zapata agree that the situation is incredibly awkward, and Baker greets them. She asks them questions about their relationship and Zapata asks for some photos of previous weddings she’s planned. Baker opens her laptop and Patterson begins downloading. Patterson gestures at them to continue stalling and Reade and Zapata ask questions about the planning. Patterson finishes the transfer and Zapata pretends to get a call from work after Baker suggests that she and Reade will have beautiful children and assesses their couple dynamic.

Patterson tells them that Roman is working as a security guard for Crawford. Reade suggests that they can arrest Roman at the gala as well, and Patterson identifies the location. Patterson suggests this might be a trap, but Weller argues that it might be their only shot to stop Bruyere’s terrorist plot. When Patterson suggests that it would be easier to get in with an inside man, Weller decides to ask Avery to help them. Avery agrees to help them, excited by the prospect. She assures Jane that she’ll be fine, and Zapata tells her she’ll be wearing a tracker that Jane insisted on.

Avery enters the party and insists to Jane that she’s all right. Patterson gives her instructions to open a back door, but Avery finds that it’s blocked. She ignores Jane’s instructions to wait and tries get through a window instead. A security guard (Jamar Greene) stops her, demanding to know what she’s doing. Jane tells her to pretend that she was being followed, and makes up a fake story and description. He promises to look out for the man and gives her instructions back to the party.

Jane walks into the party disguised with a blonde wig, Zapata disguised as a redhead, and Weller wearing glasses. Jane reminds Zapata of when nobody trusted her as Patterson listens to the conversation. Though Jane reminds her that they eventually forgave her, Zapata admits she’s not sure she’s worthy of forgiveness. Reade confirms that everything is going as planned, and asks Patterson how long she plans on cutting Zapata out. Patterson argues that they don’t alert Keaton about every development, but Reade argues that Zapata is part of the task force. She reminds him that Zapata withheld information from them, but Reade tells her they have to work together.

Weller goes to the surveillance room and kills the guard inside. Patterson tells them to look for a room with a safe, and then informs them that Avery has left the surveillance van. Weller spots Crawford on the security footage and sees that he’s talking to Avery. Jane tries to tell her to stop, but Avery ignores her. She ignores both Reade and Zapata’s warnings to not interfere and approaches them. Crawford gives Avery his condolences, and Avery asks him what he knows about her father’s suicide. Crawford lies that he didn’t know much, but reveals that he and her father mutually agreed to part ways.

Jane interrupts the conversation, introducing herself as Lindsey Russo. Avery lies that they worked together previously. Jane tries to pull Avery away, but Crawford stops them and they find themselves face to face with Roman. Crawford asks Roman where Blake is, and Roman tells Jane and Avery to follow him. As they walk, Roman calls Avery’s kidnap a necessary evil and Avery tells Roman that he’s going to rot in prison. Weller declares that they have to get Avery out of the party, but Reade argues against it.

Jane asks Roman why she shouldn’t arrest him, and Roman reminds them that Crawford is a bigger target. Jane questions his elaborate plan, and Roman deflects when Avery asks what Crawford did to him. Jane calls out Roman for using Blake, but Roman insists that Blake isn’t part of this. Jane asks about Crawford’s deal, but Roman insists it won’t matter once he’s arrested. Roman pulls them into an empty room and offers evidence of the deal. He tells them that to install cameras and film the deal, but Reade insists there must be a catch. Avery asks why they need him, but he reveals that only he can disable the electromagnetic net that would prevent the recording from transmitting.

In the bathroom, Zapata pretends to cry at the sink as Blake walks in. Blake asks if she’s okay and Zapata admits she’s embarrassed to be crying at her event. Zapata introduces herself as Julie Page and Blake offers to listen. Patterson reports that they’ve lost Zapata’s signal, and Reade tells her to get it back. Roman gives them details of the meeting, and Avery asks why they should trust him. He asks Jane if she thinks he’d go through all of this just to betray her, but Jane insists he’s lost sight of himself. Roman is offended, and tells Jane that she will always be Remy. Jane insists that Remy is dead and that she chose a new life away from him, adding that the Roman she loved is gone.

Roman walks away, and Avery criticizes Jane for letting him. Jane accuses her of letting her emotions cloud her judgment, and Avery reminds her that she wouldn’t have got inside if it weren’t for her. Avery reveals that she also slipped her tracking device on Roman as they were talking. Jane points out how risky that was, and Avery leaves before Jane tells her to go back to the van again.

Patterson works on tracking Roman as Weller, Jane, and Zapata approach the meeting room. Roman watches them go inside and Jane and Zapata set up the cameras as Weller stands guard outside. Weller spots Crawford walking towards the room and alerts Jane and Zapata. They finish their work and make it out of the room before Crawford and Bruyere enter. The team watches as Crawford introduces his attorney, Kira Evans (Gloria Reuben), who pulls the diamonds out of the safe. Before the deal can begin, Roman and Blake enter the room. The signal goes out, and the team realizes that they were betrayed.

Patterson tries to override the net, and Weller questions why Roman changed his mind. Four hours earlier, Roman sits on a plane with Crawford and Blake and replays memories of the past few months in his mind. He thanks Crawford for giving him a chance, and Blake tells Roman that Crawford has been less stressed since he started helping him. Crawford tells Roman that he trusts him and tells him that he’s family now.

Blake runs into Avery as she walks out of the gala, and they embrace. Blake tells her that she tried reaching out after her father’s death, but Avery tells her she had to get away for a bit. They catch up, but Avery tells her that she has to leave since seeing everyone again is too hard for her. Blake asks her to call if she needs anything and they embrace again.

Blake approaches Roman, and tells him about Avery. She tells him that Avery reminds her of him growing up without a support system. Blake promises that he’ll never be alone again, and tells him that he brings out the best in people. Roman tries to deny it, calling her an amazing woman. She admits she feels vulnerable with him, and he tells her he loves her before they kiss. Blake tells him that she can’t imagine life without him, and Roman assures her that she won’t have to.

Roman tells Blake they have to stop Crawford’s meeting and go upstairs, telling him that the FBI is on to them. Crawford can’t believe it, but Blake urges him to listen to Roman. He tells Crawford to finish the deal quickly so they can escape. As Bruyere examines the diamonds, Jane insists they can still catch Roman with the tracker. Crawford and Bruyere finish the deal and Roman escorts Crawford out as the team closes in. They find the meeting room empty, and Patterson tells them the tracker’s location.

Weller identifies them as FBI and a shootout begins. He tells Patterson that Roman isn’t there, but Patterson insists he is. Jane, Weller, and Zapata take out Bruyere and all of this men, and Weller demands to know where Roman is. Patterson insists he’s where they’re standing, and Jane realizes that Roman planted the tracker on Bruyere in the meeting room. They watch as Crawford, Roman, and Blake fly away in a helicopter. Grant congratulates them for taking out Bruyere, but the team is frustrated that they didn’t get Crawford or Roman. Jane shows them security footage of Roman’s conversation with Blake at the gala. She argues that he changed his mind because he was scared of losing love and family.

Crawford questions how the FBI found out about the deal, and Roman argues that they must have been tracking Bruyere. Blake is surprised to discover that Bruyere is a criminal, and gets mad at Roman for not telling her. Blake questions why he would deal with a criminal, but Crawford insists that the land was important. Blake storms off and Kira asks Roman how he knew the FBI was coming. Roman lies to defend himself. Crawford and Kira discuss their next move, and Crawford calls out Roman for not taking care of the FBI as asked.

Reade apologizes for leaving abruptly the other night, and Zapata tells him that she wouldn’t have told him if she could go back in time. He suggests that they pretend it never happened, but Zapata tells him that she can’t. Reade tells her that he can’t lose his best friend, but Zapata tells him that she can’t go to his wedding or be his best man. He asks what he should tell Megan, and Zapata tells him she deserves to know the truth. Jane apologizes to Avery for her over protectiveness, explaining that she doesn’t want to lose her after finally meeting her. Avery assures that she’ll be fine, and Weller returns home for family dinner. Roman sends out messages to various assassins ordering a hit on ever member of the team.
