Bo Martynowska – The Umbrella Academy
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) Please tell us what is new this season on “The Umbrella Academy.”
A) They’re in the sixties!
Q) What made you want to be a part of the series?
A) I actually didn’t know what I was auditioning for until I had a callback. I’m glad I didn’t know because I probably would have been more nervous at my first audition.
Q) How was your character Autumn originally described to you?
A) I can’t quite recall now to be honest, but she was Texan and the sides I memorized were not from the script I received later. “The Umbrella Academy” is super top secret. Don’t tell anybody.
Q) Was there anything you added that wasn’t in her breakdown?
A) Well, I certainly hope so.
Q) Who were you most looking forward to sharing a scene with?
A) Ellen Page —because she’s Ellen Page. But we didn’t have any scenes together. Maybe one day!
Q) Talk about the costume you wear for this role.
A) It was this really beautiful and sparkly number that Christopher Hargadon custom made for me and it took two people to get me in and out of it, even to go to the bathroom.
Q) What were some of your favorite moments from filming?
A) The scenes at the burlesque club were so fun. The crew did such a wonderful job making that world come alive.
Q) What did it mean to you to be a part of such a successful and popular graphic novel turned TV series?
A) It’s so cool to be part of the “Umbrella” universe. I really enjoyed the graphic novels and it’s one of the most thoroughly entertaining shows on Netflix.
Q) You are a part of social media. What kind of feedback have you been receiving to your time on the show?
A) People are really into the series and the feedback has been really positive. The fans are amazing.
Q) What did you personally take away from your time working on “The Umbrella Academy?”
A) That I need superpowers, ASAP.
