Q) What are the recent projects you have been working on?

A) I wrapped 2018 up by filming 47 Meters Down: Uncaged. About a week after finishing the 47 Meters Down sequel I got to fly out to Atlanta to start filming “Stargirl.” I have been filming “Stargirl” for almost seven months now and it should come out early 2020.

Q) Please tell us the premise for the movie 47 Meters Down: Uncaged.

A) 47 Meters Down: Uncaged is your classic shark horror movie. At the beginning of the movie the protagonist, played by Sophie Nelisse, is bullied and insecure. She goes diving with her step sister and her two friends in these ancient underwater ruins. While being chased by a ravenous shark or shall I say sharks, she makes an empowering transformation.

Q) How was your character Catherine originally described to you?

A) I originally auditioned for Nicole! I met our director Johannes [Roberts] for coffee to talk about the movie and the difficulties of filming an underwater movie…The schedule conflicted with “Stargirl,” so when they offered me Catherine I felt like it was truly meant to be as filming of this role didn’t overlap with “Stargirl!” And I have never been able to play the “mean girl” character so I was excited to dive in – pun intended.

Q) What were some of your favorite moments from filming 47 Meters Down: Uncaged?

A) Some of my favorite moments from filming 47 Meters Down: Uncaged would have to be in-between the camera rolling. We filmed the exterior shots in the Dominican Republic. I had a couple days off where some of the other cast and I got to explore! We went ATVing through all the sugar cane plantations and tried some amazing seafood! Not to mention I got to literally live on a resort for two weeks!!! Experience of a lifetime.

Q) What do you think it is about this movie that makes it such a great sequel?

A) I feel like this movie is a great sequel because it’s the first movie elevated. There are SO MANY sharks… Plus, the whole idea of exploring underwater caves while actually filming in underwater caves hasn’t really been done!

The first movie was new territory for the film industry and this movie continues that trend.

Q) We’ll be seeing you soon in the upcoming show “Stargirl.” What made you want to be a part of the series?

A) “Stargirl” had so many appealing things that made me want to be a part of it! Firstly, becoming a SUPERHERO?! Seriously, I can’t imagine a cooler job. Plus, when you play a superhero I feel like you kind of become part of history. In the comics, Stargirl is continuing the legacy of Starman or the Star-Spangled kid who was originally created in 1941. So, getting to be part of something that has been around for so long is really special.

Q) Where were you when you found you nabbed the role and how did you celebrate?

A) I was in the car on the way to airport to the Bahamas. I was supposed to fly out the day before, but when I got the screen test for Stargirl I changed my flight. On my way to the airport I got a call from our showrunner, Geoff Johns, who broke the exciting news. After that, I quite literally celebrated by spending a week in the Bahamas.

Q) What was it like for you the first time slipping into the costume?

A) The costume development process was such a cool experience. The costume was not an overnight creation. I had over ten fittings, life casts, body scans and a million measurements! I think the coolest part was seeing it slowly become the costume it is today. When I finally got to walk on set with the finished product it felt so empowering. I had this custom made supersuit on and I truly felt like a superhero.

Q) Talk about having iconic actors Amy Smart and Luke Wilson portraying your parents.

A) Amy and Luke are both amazing people on and off set. They are such giving actors. It’s common for such recognizable actors like themselves to not give it their all when the camera isn’t on them, which makes it difficult for the other actor to get their coverage. Not them. They always give it, whether they are being filmed or not. I feel really blessed to get to work with them.

Q) With superheroes all the rage these days, what makes Stargirl sound out amongst the others?

A) Stargirl is special for a number of reasons. The creator of Stargirl, and our showrunner, is Geoff Johns. He created Stargirl in 1999 in honor of his sister who he lost in a plane crash. I think knowing there is a bigger reason we come to work every day, besides just to make a TV show, has allowed our show to have a lot of heart that some superhero shows lack. Also, Courtney (or Stargirl) stands out because she is your average teenage girl. She wasn’t born with some crazy powers or a science experiment gone She is juggling the issues of being a teenager and a young girl, all while being a superhero. Her heart makes her super.

Q) You are a part of social media. Do you enjoy the fan feedback you receive to your roles?

A) It has been cool to see fans feedback in the past on my roles! I loved reading comments about people going to see 47 Meters Down: Uncaged to see if they jumped or not… many did. I am very eager for everyone to see “Stargirl” and meet Courtney! While I try not to read too much into the feedback, I do love hearing when people are enjoying my work.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you. I take pride in the work I do and the time and effort I put into my job, so to receive support honestly means the world to me.
