Interviews
Caleb Emery – Little
By: Jamie Steinberg
Q) Tell us about the recent projects you’ve been working on?
A) One project I’m super excited about is Universal Pictures film Little. I have a fun role as Valet Vince supporting Regina Hall, Issa Rae and Marsai Martin. It’s opening in theaters on April 12 and should be a really fun comedy for everyone. And, of course, Season 2 of “Good Girls” is now airing on NBC with the first season now on Netflix! Also, I am currently in filming for my role in The Hunt, with my costars Logan Lerman and Al Pacino. Jordan Peele is producing it, which is amazing! The script for this pilot is insane. So, I can’t wait for people to see it.
Q) What was your audition like for the film Little?
A) I believe I had sent in a taped audition for my role and then flew to Atlanta to do a director session with Tina Gordon. I live with actors so the process of taping is taken very seriously and we spend some time on it to perfect it, which I believe helps us book the jobs.
Q) How was your character Valet Vince originally described to you?
A) Vince was described as that polite yet professional guy. He knows how serious Jordan is (Regina Hall) and didn’t really want to get on her bad side.
Q) What made you want to be a part of the movie?
A) Well, Will Packer is a genius and whenever he is involved in a comedy I would love to be a part of it. The script was great, it seemed like a fun time and it didn’t disappoint.
Q) Talk about working alongside Marsai Martin.
A) Other than the fact she was kind of my boss? [laughs] She was amazing. Super smart and funny! And not to mention extremely talented. She was an Executive Producer! Like, what?! Amazing!
Q) What were some of your favorite behind the scenes moments from filming the movie?
A) It’s been a little while now. But I could remember some of the younger cast teaching some of the hair and makeup ladies some dance moves that had me laughing out loud! Also, the fact that Regina and Marsai are my “bosses” in the film it was really fun to watch them be bossy and mean and then be able to laugh between takes because the scenes were so funny!
Q) We’re also seeing you on “Miracle Workers” and “Good Girls!” How are you able to keep track of your characters when working on multiple shows at one time?
A) Funny enough, I overlapped filming the first season of “Good Girls” with “Miracle Workers,” playing a security guard in one and a scientist in another. Both shows are shot in Atlanta so it wasn’t hard to get to both. Sometimes we’re shooting minutes from each other. So, it was definitely difficult at first but once you get to your trailer in the morning and figure out which set you are on it comes back to you.
Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of your work?
A) Of course, thank you for the continued support and love from everyone. It is super nice when people say hey and they are fans. I’m just chasing a dream and I believe that if you stay focused and work hard you can achieve any dream you have. So, if you believe in yourself people will believe in you! No matter what you want to do in life go after it with everything you have. Make it happen! [smiles]
