Celebrities Who Still Play the Lottery

By  |

Most of us would think of the lotto as a ticket to our happy ending, to fortune and maybe fame. But what about those that already have that? Believe it or not, the lotto is very popular among celebrities, and in this list, we’re chronicling some of the top celebrities who are still playing the game.

Madonna

Madonna certainly doesn’t need any help in the financial department. After more than three decades as one of the top female artists in the world, Madonna’s reign has amassed her a fortune. Not only is she the best-selling female artist of all time with sold-out tours and albums, she also has a number of various other revenue streams like books and fashion, which have given the pop queen a net worth of around $800 million.

However, Madonna has been known to play the lottery. She often plays the SuperEnalotto, the Italian lottery, to keep in touch with her Italian roots and support the local lottery market. Madonna reportedly won 120,000 euros on the draw in 2012 and donated the winnings to her charity school in Malawi.

Hugh Jackman

The star of X-Men franchise has been known to use lottery tickets to bond with the crew on film sets. The Australian star claims that the habit first came about on the set of his first American film when, after two months of filming, he realized he didn’t know any of the crew’s names. Jackman decided to remedy this by going out and buying them all lottery tickets.

Jackman spent a reported $500 on lottery tickets for the crew of his robot-fighting sci-fi flick Reel Steel and a reported $400 on the set of his Oscar-nominated musical Les Miserables.
Simon Cowell

This music mogul first shot to fame as a judge on Pop Idol and The X-Factor with his stony-faced personality and hilariously harsh criticisms of contestants. His dual roles as producer and television personality have earnt him an estimated $550,000,000.

However, this massive fortune has never stopped Cowell from indulging in lotto tickets. He reportedly told the Daily Mail: “I still play. But I tick the box that says no publicity so no one would know.” Is Simon perhaps hinting he’s had some big wins that he’s kept a secret?

George Clooney

Okay, okay, so Clooney doesn’t really count as he’s not a consistent lotto player, but his sheer charisma and consistent wins as the world’s sexiest man mean he’s making it onto this list.

Clooney also invested in the Italien SuperEnalotto when the 2010 jackpot reached 117 million euros. He invested 1,500 euros in the hopes that if he won he would donate the money to charity. Unfortunately, Clooney didn’t win this time but his motivations were certainly honorable!

So being a celebrity certain doesn’t stop you hoping for a big lotto win. Did any of these celebrity lotto players come to a shock for you? Is there anyone you think we missed? Let us know in the comment section.
