Q) Where do we pick up with Rome and Regina when we return to “A Million Little Things?”

A) Exactly where we left off. The third starts with us leaving the hospital, we’re dejected and come home to a house full of baby toys and everything you would need for a newborn baby. It just feels very empty, desolate and heartbreaking. Then, we get the news about Eddie (David Giuntoli) and decide to just put our stuff on the shelf so we can be there for our friends. We go right back to the hospital. There may or may not be another baby in the mix, but what I can say is Rome (Romany Malco) and Regina are handling their grief very differently so there is definitely a divide between them.

Q) We know that Regina blames Rome for convincing her to go forward with this adoption. Is he feeling remorse?

A) He does. He feels the best way to get over it is to get a new child. He wants to just keep moving. The thing is they are not really talking right now. So, we pick up on them just really on opposite ends and, hopefully, they will find their way back to being on the same page.

Q) With Eddie’s accident, what does it mean for Rome and Regina? With losing John and now Eddie being in critical care give Regina the cause for putting their stuff on the shelf for now?

A) They are presented with an opportunity where they can’t really deny dealing with what they have to deal with. A baby basically gets presented and they have to decide whether they are going to go forward or not. They are there for their friends, but I think Regina is definitely doing a bit of compartmentalizing. It’s really hard for her to see Delilah (Stephanie Szostak) with her kids, baby Charlie and even Sophie (Lizzy Greene) and Danny (Chance Hurstfield)…Like seeing the family unit is still really hard for her. Her friends are tiptoeing around her. So, yeah, there is definitely some compartmentalizing going on.

Q) They lost John, Regina has her hands full with the restaurant and now Eddie has this accident! How much more can Regina take?! [laughs]

A) Well, COVID happens. So, there is that! We actually dive into COVID during the season and we are just now starting to shoot some of those episodes. It definitely gets a little bit worse, for sure. [laughs]

Q) What are some episodes that fans should look out for this season?

A) That’s a good question. Definitely the season premiere is a really good one. That really sets up a lot of things. There are a couple, but I can’t say because it will give away too much. I’m actually really enjoying Maggie’s (Allison Miller) trip to Oxford. Look out for Maggie’s journey. It’s fun, funny and heartwarming. I think Rome’s journey with his movie and what happens in the beginning and getting the movie together. With the casting, there are some fun things there with Regina, with this “celebrity” that they get to play Regina. Their interaction is really nice. Also, just what comes up with this character and Rome and why she chooses to do his movie is really important. And I think a lot of fans who already resonate with the show, especially Rome’s character and his portrayal of depression and his whole experience with that, I think they are really going to appreciate what is said about that.

Q) Who can you tease as guest stars this season?

A) I’m not allowed to say anything.

Q) Going into this new season were you looking to share more scenes with someone(s) in particular?

A) Hmm. I love working with all of them. When we are all together as a group it’s so much and we really, really have a great time. I would actually love to work more with David. I don’t get to have scenes just one-on-one with him very often. COVID, in real life, has effected how we are filming. So, we’re not doing as much of the ensemble scenes because we are trying to limit how many people are on set. So, my favorite is always when we’re all together because it’s just hilarious. We never stop laughing, which is hell for the directors. [laughs] It’s like herding cats, but they have fun with it, too. Our cast and crew get along really well. I like working with Grace [Park] because she and I actually don’t get a chance to work with each other a lot and we do more in this season. There is some female bonding and empowerment this season happening with a lot of this with Regina and Grace the way they team up.

Q) How will COVID effect Regina’s restaurant?

A) Well, I have yet to see if the restaurant will close. I don’t know that information, but we are keeping true. Where we are right now it just started in the story where we thought in real life that the lockdown was going to last two weeks and then we thought it was going to last a month. That’s kind of where we are at right now. Right now her restaurant went to fifty percent capacity and then we’re seeing it decrease in capacity and then she has to think on her feet about how she is going to pay her staff and keep her business running. That’s as far as I know. D.J. [Nash] doesn’t always tell us ahead of time what is going on with our characters.

Q) What do you think it is about “A Million Little Things” that continues to make it such a fan favorite series?

A) Well, I think it’s because it is very relatable. I think we can all see ourselves in each one of these people – ach one of the characters in the story and the lives that they are living. So, when you see yourself on TV and you can sometimes relate to people that is just connection right then and there. That seems to be the feedback and what makes the most sense to me. And I think there are not a lot of network television shows out there who dive into mental illness and mental health in the way that we have while maintaining some humor. Friends rallying together and creating the family that they need. I think that’s pretty much it. And probably David Giuntoli’s jawline. [laughs] It’s a joke! We always joke. He has this really funny self-deprecating sense of humor that’s fun.

Q) How do you plan to celebrate the Season 3 premiere?

A) Well, I can’t do much celebrating. I am just going to join in live New York time and see who wants to tweet and watch the show with them if I can. I’m going to celebrate by jumping on Twitter with the fans and taking the ride with them.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and the work you do on this show?

A) Well, I want to say thank you (first and foremost) for supporting us and watching and for taking the ride with Regina and all of us. We can’t do it without you guys so keep watching, keep supporting, stay safe, follow your heart and be happy. Especially now since we’re going through some crazy times, try to laugh. Try to live the life that you love no matter what.
