Cory Marks – Who I Am

Q) How would you describe your sound?

A) A good mix of country/rock

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

A) My biggest musical influences are my dad (for introducing me to such a variety of great music) Neil Peart, Merle Haggard, Eric Church and many more.

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

A) It depends really. I’ve written entire songs with just a melody in my head like “drive” and sometimes I will write to the music of that specific song.

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

A) When Kevin Churko is producing your album, you have all the hands you need.

Q) What are some themes you explore on your debut album WHO I AM?

A) Just life in general. Good times, bad times, love and loss. Oh, and Saturday nights fueled by whiskey.

Q) What songs on this album hold a special place in your heart and what makes them so significant to you?

A) Well, to start I’d say “Outlaws & Outsiders.” It was the first song I wrote for this record and my first big hit! So, that song will always hold a special place. They are all special to me really. All their own stories and emotions.

Q) What songs challenged you the most to create and in what way?

A) Each song has their own challenges. Sometimes vocal ranges and song dynamics. Sometimes it is hard to find the right harmonies, too.

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from WHO I AM?

A) Something fresh. Hopefully, something they love and is unique to them.

Q) With concerts currently on pause, what do you miss most about being on stage?

A) Just playing music with my band and hearing the crowd. The whole show day routine!

Q) Lzzy Hale is just one artist you worked with on the album. Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) I’m thankful for each feature I have on this record. There are many great artists I’d love to work with. For my next record Kid Rock, Ozzy, Post Malone, Luke Combs or Gaga!

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them?

A) I listen to a lot of different music, artists and bands. Hard to pick!

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

A) It’s the only way to connect with anyone right now really…I’m doing my best to stay connected with everyone.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) I’m thankful for each and every one of you. Thanks for loving me, my work and my music. Please be kind, stay safe, keep playing and sharing my music. I hope to see you guys soon!
