Q) What are the recent projects that you are working on?

A) Lately I’ve been juggling a few things – “Mr. Iglesias,” “Agents of SHIELD” and “The Blacklist” are keeping me busy these days.

Q) Please tell us the premise for the new series “Mr. Iglesias.”

A) Gabriel Iglesias originally had dreams of becoming a teacher before he became a comedian. This show takes a look at what could’ve been had he chosen to become a teacher instead. Based at the actual high school he attended, Gabe juggles his class of misfits and crazy funny coworkers.

Q) How was your character Lorenzo originally described to you?

A) Lorenzo was described to me as an out of the box thinker with a big imagination.

Q) Was there something you added to the role that wasn’t in the initial breakdown?

A) I added a little extra paranoia from time to time when Lorenzo would panic about his conspiracy theories. I figured, if this kid really believes this stuff he’s got to be scared.

Q) Were you familiar with any of your costars before working with them on the show?

A) Cree [Cicchino] and I used to work together from time to time while we were both on Nickelodeon. I, obviously, was a huge fan of all of our teachers before we started. Gabe, Sherri [Shepherd], and Oscar [Nunez] were the three that I was the most familiar with.

Q) Talk about working with Gabriel Iglesias.

A) Working with Gabe is what made this show so special. His energy is infectious and it’s nearly impossible to not break character during a lot of our scenes.

Q) Was there much room for improv during scenes?

A) Gabe is the improv king, so it’s always hard to improv with him because you know he’ll throw something at you that will make you completely fall out laughing.

Q) What were some of your favorite moments from filming?

A) Getting to shoot in front of a live audience was definitely my favorite. It felt like we were at a comedy show every night.

Q) What do you think it is about the show that will make it a fast fan favorite.

A) The cast shines bright in this show. Anybody could watch and find a piece of themselves in one our characters which is why I think people will really enjoy it.

Q) You are a part of social media. Have you been enjoying the fan feedback you’ve been receiving to episodes?

A) Absolutely. I try and stay off of social media as much as possible, but when I do check in the reviews are always great. I’ve even had a couple people come up to me in public and say how much they can relate to the show.

Q) You seem to bounce easily between drama and comedy. Do you have a favorite medium to star in?

A) It’s nearly impossible to pick a favorite, which is why I prefer to dabble in both. Any time one bores me or doesn’t challenge me anymore I can always hop over to the other side and try something new.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Thank you. It’s taken me a longtime to get here and this is only the beginning. Super excited to see what the future holds.
