DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – I Am Legends
By: Courtney Groom
Still at the Frat house Zari (Tala Ashe) tells the Legends that she has set up a countdown on her phone to measure the 24 hours they have until they’re no longer immortal. Constantine (Matt Ryan) enters and says that someone has stolen his Shadow Stone. He figures that Gary (Adam Tsekhman) took it, but Nate (Nick Zano) says that he already went back to the Waverider. When the Legends leave the house the portal doesn’t work and instead they’re in England. At the same time, they also realize Astra (Olivia Swann) is no longer with them.
Astra is aboard the ship with Lachesis (Sarah Strange) and Atropos (Joanna Vanderham) haven stole the stone from the Legends. Gary is also aboard tending to his new rabbit, Gary Junior Two, and calls to Gideon (Amy Louise Pemberton) to fabricate some carrots. Gideon warns that the Waverider has been compromised and shuts down as the ship lifts off, leaving Gary wondering who is flying the ship.
Back in England Constantine insists that Astra wouldn’t have stolen the Waverider. Nate suggests that she might have wanted to use the Loom and Charlie (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) wonders if her sisters are involved. Sara (Caity Lotz) calls Gideon but gets no response. When Ava (Jes Macallan) takes Sara’s hands, Sara has a future vision and draws back instantly. Ava asks what she saw, but Sara says that she had a flash and then nothing. Sara suggests that the Chalice is messing with her powers. Ava is then hit with an idea to go to one of the Time Bureau offices in London. They can go there and get a courier to portal them back to the ship.
The next day the Legends wait for a bus nearby and Zari says that it’s 275.8 to London, according to her phone. The bus arrives and the driver wants their fares. With the Legends realizing none of them are carrying money, Sara tries to explain that the fate of the world lays in their hands. Instead Mick (Dominic Purcell) tosses the driver off the bus and tells everyone else to get on.
Lachesis thanks Astra for delivering the Waverider to them and Atropos for shutting down Gideon. Astra says that she didn’t have a choice. Since Astra is now immortal after drinking from the Chalice, she agreed to help them but says that she has some demands. She wants prunes gone, dogs to remain puppies and her mother brought back from the dead. Atropos wants to kill Astra, but Astra points out that she’s now immortal. Lachesis tells Atropos to run along while she deals with Astra’s demands.
As the bus heads to London Sara suggests that Ava run point on the mission. Ava is surprised, but Sara figures the Legends need Ava as a leader. Her lover agrees, but says that it’s just temporary until Sara gets her vision back and insists that they’re co-captains for life.
Atropos looks at a globe of the world in the study and mutters ancient Greek as she tries to use the ring. Gary watches from afar as black energy spreads from her hand to the spot in England where the Legends are located. Atropos then sets down her ring with the other two in the case.
Zari looks at the countdown on her phone as Nate reassures her that they’ll get Behrad back. They’re just taking “the scenic route.” Zari sees Constantine at the back of the bus ready to light a cigarette and stops him, asking why he’s starting again. Constantine says that Astra betrayed him and if the Sisters get the Loom that they’re all doomed.
Mick hits a man on the road ahead of him. He swerves to a halt, throwing everyone on the floor, and wipes the blood off the windshield. They go out and Mick points out that the man he hit is moving. He gets up and the Legends realize that the man is actually a zombie. The zombie charges at them and Mick punches him to the ground. Constantine points out that they faced similar creatures when Atropos chased them through the woods. Charlie warns that Atropos will do anything she can to stop them.
More zombies charge the road. Sara and Ava attack them while the others head for the bus. Two zombies charge out of the bush and ignore Constantine, but still attack the other Legends. The other Legends join the fight and Constantine tells Zari that since he is has a damned soul that the zombies aren’t interested in him. One tries to go through him to get to Zari and Constantine fries it with hellfire. Once the zombies are down, Ava says that they’d better stick to the plan and get the bus running before more zombies arrive.
On the Waverider Gary tries to bring Gideon back online by fixing the circuits, but he manages to shock himself unconscious instead. Gideon comes back online and appears to Gary as a hologram. SHe introduces herself to Gary when he wakes up. She tells him he has to hide the rings from the Sisters and she’ll help him do it.
As night falls Mick tries to fix the bus, but warns that the pump is broken. Ava figures they can make it to London if they all work together, but Mick says that it will take at least an hour to fix the engine. Constantine says that he might know someone in the area who has a car, so he and Zari walk off to find him.
Lachesis tells Astra that the laws of Nature aren’t kind to normal humans and that’s what Astra will be if she’s reunited with her mother. She touches Astra’s forehead and shows her a vision of an older Astra holding her dying mother’s hands. Once the vision ends Lachesis says that life as a human is a life of pain and suffering and Constantine didn’t tell Astra that she’s just postponing the inevitable. She asks why Astra should bring back her mother only to lose her again.
Zari and Constantine walk down the road. Sadly, Constantine suggests that Behrad might be doomed in every timeline. She tells Constantine to go to hell and he makes a joke that he’s been there and back already. He insists that he’s just trying to save her the disappointment, but Zari doesn’t believe him and keep’s walking.
Gary and Gideon sneak into the study where Atropos is practicing her knife-throwing. Gary is intrigued and wonders how they’ll distract her. Gideon has an idea and hops like a rabbit out of the study. Atropos goes over to investigate. Gary sneaks over, grabs the three rings and then runs off.
While they wait for the bus Ava worries about how her plan is falling apart. Sara assures her that the best plans are when the original plan falls apart and the Legends are all about of improvisation.
Suddenly, a military truck pull up and the Legends go to greet them. The soldiers aim their guns at them and wonder if they’re infected. When Ava insists that they aren’t and walks forward, one of the soldiers shoot her in the head. Ava comes back to life, still being immortal, and the soldiers assume they’re super-zombies because they can talk. The leader has his men round up the Legends and take them back to base camp.
Atropos returns to the study and discovers the rings are gone. Lachesis and Astra come in, and Atropos tells her what happened. She figures there’s someone else on the ship and Astra finds a piece of carrot on the floor.
Gary finds Gideon and tells her that he has the rings. Gideon suggests that they find a Courier and jump the Legend to the ship and Gary impressively says that they should go to the lab and get a courier.
Constantine takes Zari to a junk yard and explains that the owner once approached him about exorcising a demon-possessed car. Zombies charge them, and Constantine and Zari take refuge in a building. Zari goes to look for the keys and finds them as a zombie charges at her. She uses the air totem to air blast an airbag to knock its head onto a spike, “killing” it. Zari figures that Constantine should leave her behind since the zombies aren’t interested in him, but he figures he can use a spell to stop her heart. He warns Zari that they’ve only got a few minutes until she dies for real. Zari tells him to do it.
The Legends ride in the back of the military truck and Ava says that they should consider their resources. Mick remembers that he’s been locked up in a similar truck before. He finds a weak spot in the door and tells Nate to turn to steel and punch it. Once he gets the door open, Mick shoves Nate out and then jumps himself with the rest of the Legends following. Once they recover, they find a road sign and Ava points out that they’re now only 80 miles from London.
Constantine stops Zari’s heart with his spell and then carries her out past the zombies who ignore both of them. Once they get to the owner’s van, Constantine casts a spell to revive Zari. When it doesn’t work Constantine administers CPR and begs her to come back to him. Zari draws in a breath and the zombies outside sense her so they charge at the van. Constantine closes the door and quickly drives off.
Gary and Gideon get to the lab and find the couriers as Atropos the others arrive. Atropos threatens to skin Gary and Astra tells him to hand over the rings. He yells to Gideon to run and save herself, but she’s already gone. Only Gary’s rabbit is there and Atropos assumes Gary is talking to his rabbit. He begs Gideon for help. Gideon says that she’s a figment of his imagination, but he shouldn’t give in. Gary makes the rings disappear with an obfuscation spell and Atropos jams her knife into his neck.
Constantine and Zari pull up to other Legends and everyone gets in. They drive to London and go to the Bureau office, which is disguised as a pub. Unfortunately, there is no one there. Someone left a note about a zombie apocalypse. Ava finds a courier, but discovers that it’s not charged. They plug it back into a charger and wait.
Zari checks his phone and confirms how much time the others have until the immortality disappear. Constantine comes in and tells Zari that he quit smoking again and she figures that there’s no point because the fates are against them. He says that doom and gloom doesn’t suit her. Zari thinks that he has a savior complex. They argue about how superficial Zari is and she says that she wouldn’t want to be with him if he was the last man on Earth. After a moment, she kisses him and he kisses her back.
After strapping Gary to a gurney Astra considers where to start torturing him. He says that he knows she took a leap of faith with Ava. Astra explains that it was a moment of weakness and she doesn’t want to lose her mother. Gary asks if she’s okay seeing her mother dying and Astra says that she’s not okay. He asks Astra if Lachesis showed the great memories she had with her mother and suggests Astra share them with him instead of torturing him.
After sex Constantine and Zari join the others. Constantine tells them that any one of them might be called to the Loom and wonders what temptations they might have. Sara says that she’s happy traveling through time with her lady and Ava agrees. Mick figures he’d be a simple criminal again and Zari says that she’d make the world a more inclusive place. Constantine thinks that he’d throw a rager, but finally admits that he’d want to do right by Astra.
The Legends share a toast to dreaming. Ava asks Sara what she’s not telling her. Sara says that it is nothing, but Ava figures that Sara didn’t lose her powers. Sara tells her that the courier won’t charge before the zombies break in and that she lied to Ava because her vision ended with her dying in the pub. She didn’t want Ava distracted. Ava tells Sara that the team will fix the situation and save the day. Sara says she didn’t see how they save the day, but she figures the team will and Ava will lead them.
Nate then shouts to warn that the zombies are now surrounding the pub and Zari reveals that their immortality has run out.
On the Waverider Astra talks to Gary about how her mother loved strawberries. She then tells Gary to show her how to use the Courier. Atropos comes in, tells Astra that her immortality has run out and throws a knife into Astra’s chest killing her, and tells Gary to give her the rings.
The Legends try to hold the doors shut as the zombie try to break in, figuring they only have to hold out until the courier charges. Ava realizes the door won’t hold. Sara says that she’ll hold the zombies off as long as she can. Sara and Ava kiss as the zombies break in and the Legends stand and fight. The courier is still charging and Sara gets up on a pool table and calls the zombies over. They charge at her and she fights them while the other Legends continue the struggle.
The zombies pull Sara down and Ava screams in anguish. The courier charges and Ava gives it to Charlie and tells her to stop her sisters. Charlie jumps onto the Waverider as a zombie grabs her. The portal closes as the zombies pull-down Ava, Mick and Nate.
Charlie finds herself with Gary. She frees him and he tells her what happened and produces the rings.
Atropos and Lachesis come in. Atropos kills Gary. They tell Charlie that she came back just in time. Charlie says that she’s done running and it’s time to get to work.
