We open on a flashback of a sad scene eight years ago in Blue Valley. Jordan (Neil Jackson) tells his son (Roger Dale Floyd) that it’s time and goes to a bedroom with a little boy to say goodbye to his dying wife Christine (Amanda Lavassani). In her final moments she thanks her son for his drawing and begs Jordan to continue their work – to stop the people ruining this country. She also says that if they try to stop him he should destroy them. Then, she’s gone.

Present day we see Pat (Luke Wilson) is trying to wrangle the family into a family dinner that night. Mike (Trae Romano) is less than enthusiastic. Courtney (Brec Bassinger) wants to blow off class to find the Injustice Society. Pat is troubled by Courtney’s lack of fear. Pat says that Brainwave (Christopher James Baker) could’ve killed them. But, Courtney argues that he didn’t. Also, she’s still holding onto the Starman was her father theory. Pat says they need to play it safe and tells Courtney to go to school.

After breakfast Pat ventures to the hospital to check on Brainwave by posing as an old friend. He’s still in a coma and the doctors don’t know if he’ll wake up. Henry Jr (Jason Austin Walker) keeps a close watch on his father and so does Jordan.

Elsewhere, William (Joe Knezevich) is staring dramatically into the distance. Then, before heading off to school, his son Joey (Will Deusner) shows him a card trick. Being an amateur magician is something they bond over.

There also seems to be some sort of talent show happening at school. Everyone’s decked out in costumes, except for Courtney who didn’t get the memo. However, Joey decides to make her a part of his act with his card trick. She throws him a bone when his trick isn’t as successful as he thought.

Jordan shows up on William’s porch. He demands the info on Stargirl. It seems that apparently Jordan left William in charge. William wants some respect as he’s the one who cleaned everything up. Everything includes getting Brainwave out of the hospital without outing him as a super-villain. Jordan tells William that he stumbled into his powers and it shows that he never completed his training due to killing his master. The wand he wields is capable of so much more. He tells William that he’s gone across the country killing anyone that had anything to do with exposing Christine to the toxic waste that made her sick. He’s doing it for his son. William says he understands since his children are everything to him. As it should be, Jordan says, but he’s back in charge now.

Pat has to pick Mike up from school for playing video games in class. He ends up getting banished to his room and told he’s getting a paper route.

Jordan goes to Barbara’s (Amy Smart) job to give a speech. He explains his parents were immigrants and he’s all about revitalization. Barbara suggests reopening the old movie theatre. Jordan thinks it’d be good for the community, so he gives her idea the greenlight.

At school Courtney sees a girl named Yolanda (Yvette Monreal) having a bad day since someone has written the word “slut” on her locker. Students Cindy (Meg DeLacy) and Jenny (Ashley Winfrey) are smack talking because she went out with Henry when she knew Cindy liked him. Courtney steps in and points out that slut-shaming is damaging. Yolanda tells her to back off because she’ll make things worse for the both of them.

Later in class Courtney meets a kid named Cameron (Hunter Sansone). She deduces he left the cool art on Yolanda’s locker. Then, they get scolded for talking during Algebra.

Barbara gets to know Jordan a little better at work. He invites her to a meeting, but she’s got a family dinner. One that’s hanging on by a thread. Courtney sees an iced over field of grass in the park in the shape of a star and realizes it’s a message from Icicle. She races home to tell Pat and wants to go look for him. Pat tells Courtney again that Icicle is dangerous. They send Mike away and then Pat reluctantly agrees to go look for Icicle.

They suit up and go to the field, but it’s a trap. Pat in his S.T.R.I.P.E. suit gets iced over and his controls lock. He can’t move, but Courtney moves forward. She comes face to face with Icicle and Pat intervenes with a missile shooting him across the river. Unfortunately, on the bridge above it a bus of kids from Courtney’s school is on it.

Icicle freezes the road and causes the bus to go off a bridge. Luckily, S.T.R.I.P.E catches it. Once back on the bridge the kids get off the bus and all seems okay. Pat wants to leave, but Courtney wants to continue the hunt. Unfortunately, the crisis isn’t over yet. Icicle blows Joey’s cards out of his hands and Joey goes after them into the road. A driver that is unable to stop due to the ice hits him.

A devastated William has to break the news to his wife. He then decides to get revenge on Icicle and leaves after grabbing his wand.

In the garage Courtney and Pat mourn Joey. Courtney tells him that Joey was the only kid at school who was nice to her. She says they’ll find Icicle and make him pay. Pat decides it’s time for a field trip. He takes Courtney to the headquarters for the Justice Society. Pat gives a crash course in the JSA’s tools, identities and abilities. He tells her they were his friend and they’re all dead. There’s also an owl that used to belong to Dr. Midnight. Sadly, the owl doesn’t know Dr. Midnight died. Pat tries to make her see how dangerous the Injustice Society is. Courtney says they could get help. She’s taking on the Starman mantle and maybe there’s a new Dr. Fate or Wildcat out in the world. Pat again says that this life is dangerous. Joey is dead and that’s why they can’t go on. Courtney argues that is why they have to do it. It’s their destiny.

Pat is not convinced. He says Starman said that before he died. Until he says so, no more Stargirl.

William confronts Jordan about Joey’s death. Jordan says he’s sorry and then turns his ice powers on William. He says he knows William loved his son, but what he’s doing was for him. Jordan then kills William. Jordan’s parents say they’ll clean it up and tell him that he’s got work to do. On the news we learn it’s been staged as a heart attack.

Barbara attends a meeting with Jordan while the rest of the family have dinner. We next meet Cameron, the boy from Algebra. He’s Jordan’s son! Jordan’s parents say not to worry about Cameron as Project New America will keep him safe.
