Dead of Summer – Home Sweet Home

A girl (Jenna Berman) is looking at her broken car when someone else pulls up and offers to take her to Camp Stillwater to visit her friend.

Amy (Elizabeth Lail) is crying in the cabin, talking about how she didn’t mean to kill Joel (Eli Goree). Garrett (Alberto Frezza) believes her but Holyoke (Tony Todd) won’t let him fall for the trap, instead he tells him to open the well in the corner. Inside the well is the last pure water from Stillwater, Jessie (Paulina Singer) figures out that she was chosen because she was pure. Amy is so strong that Holyoke has to conduct the purification.

Outside the campers are gathered into the bus to be driven out of the camp. Deb (Elizabeth Mitchell), Blair (Mark Indelicato) and Drew (Zelda Williams) get on the bus with the campers, leaving the rest in the cabin with Amy.

Flashback to 1980, where a family watches cartoons, but is interrupted when Amy’s mother sees that she had her brother’s gerbil out of it’s cage. Amy doesn’t think it’s right to have him trapped, but her dad won’t listen. Her brother taunts her later that night, saying he heard that their father wants to ship her away. The garbage disposal gets clogged up with Amy’s brothers dead gerbil stuck inside because she put him in there to be free.

Amy tries to convince the others that Holyoke is tricking them while he tells them that this ritual won’t be easy. They have to call to the spirits of light, who will give them strength to fight the demon. He starts to play the piano which calls to the demon in the lake. We see the demon’s point of view as he approaches the campground. Blood starts to pour down the windows and out of Holyoke’s body, causing him to vanish and the lights to go out. When they come back, Holyoke is gone and they are alone with a possessed Amy.

Flashback to Amy watching Cinderella while her parents sleep nearby. Her brother tells her that he wants to show her something and takes her to the garage, locking her in. The next morning a fireman opens the door and takes her outside where a police officer tells her that there was a carbon monoxide poisoning and no one made it but her.

Meanwhile the group is freaking out about what to do now that they are alone with a possessed Amy. Garrett says that to call the spirits of light they need to get the tape of Holyoke that he found. Jessie says that they have to be the spirits of light instead because Amy needs them. She reads in the book that the demon needs to reveal himself before they can purify Amy. Garrett and Alex (Ronen Rubinstein) hold her down and Jessie pours pure water down her throat. The chair with Amy moves away so Jessie tells Garrett that he needs to talk to Amy to remind her who she is. He tells Amy that this is her home and they all love her only to have the demon respond that he is waiting for him.

On the bus everything is calm at first, until they hit fog and can’t see anything. This causes the bus to hit the demon and blood flows down all the windows just like in the cabin. The bus driver goes outside to see what they hit that caused all this bloodshed, the door closes behind him. Then, we see him being pulled back by something, disappearing from sight.

Possessed Amy starts to talk to Alex in Russian, saying she will let him do anything he wants with her.

In the bus there is more chaos outside, scaring the children. Then, the words ”Let Me Out” appear on the window, with Blair and Drew telling Deb that they won’t make it for much longer. Deb says she will try to buy them some time to drive off, going outside and shutting the door behind her.

Jessie continues to purify Amy, with Amy making an appearance or at least that’s what we think, only to have her bite into Garrett’s neck.

Flashback to Amy being in a foster home, talking about how she moved seven times in nine years and she is tired of being the new girl.

Jessie tries to reach out to Amy again, apologizing so that the demon doesn’t expect it when Garrett continues to read from the book. There’s a knock and Deb claims it’s her, but when they open it they see that it’s the demon.

The demon possessing Amy gains the upper hand, throwing them around the room until Garrett opens the door for her.

Deb is walking outside trying to call out to the demon when she finds the dead bus driver.

Garrett wakes up Jessie, where she sees him hanging by a noose that could kill him if Amy pushes the chair.

Deb runs into Keith (Dylan Neal), who is the demon in the disguise ready to kill her.

Jessie remembers Holyoke’s words, offering herself in exchange for Garrett. The demon enters Jessie’s body instead while Keith tells Deb that she brought Amy to the camp, the perfect vessel. Jessie tells Alex to take the pure water and to dump her in there, even if it will kill her, too. Alex traps her inside, letting the demon get burned up which causes Keith to back off of Deb from pain. He burns and disappears back into the lake.

That’s when the bus starts working and the blood disappears from the bus. Drew drives them away from camp so they can get home safe.

Amy wakes up and asks where Jessie is, breaking down when she realizes that her friend is dead in the well.  Amy still performs CPR on her, which doesn’t work at first but then she wakes up proving that Jessie was pure enough to survive the water. Garrett says he will drive them to meet the others, but Amy asks to stay and say goodbye to the camp for a second.

Flashback to Deb finding Amy near the lake a month before the camp started. They talk about how the camp feels like home, but Deb says she is fully staffed and can’t take Amy, too. This connects to the night when Amy’s friend fell out the window, she was already part of the staff and with her gone Amy would get the last spot. Turns out that Amy called the cops, knowing that Margot (Morgan Taylor Campbell) would want to leave through the window and that would lead to being dropped as a counselor. The girl in the beginning of the episode who got in the car to get to the camp saw Amy the night when she let her friend die.

Deb is in the cabin trying to piece together what the demon told her when that girl shows up wanting to share what she knows. But before she can, Amy appears and kills her with an axe from behind – right in front of Deb. It turns out that when Amy performed CPR, she actually took the demon back inside of her. She explains this to Deb, who disappeared inside the cabin, that she was meant to be here. The demon was looking for a dark soul like her and that’s why the camp was always meant to be her home. Amy reminds Deb the real reason why she brought her back, hinting at the mask that Deb had. She stabs Deb to death, cleaning the blood off before going outside to join the others, who don’t know what actually happened in the cabin.

In flashbacks we see Amy wearing that mask and killing Keith, Blotter (Zachary Gordon) and Cricket (Amber Coney). She was the other helper that the Sheriff mentioned to Garrett before he died.
