Q) Please tell us the premise of the film Friday Night Sext Scandal.

A) Friday Night Sext Scandal is a movie inspired by real stories about a group of high school football players who make a website where they upload explicit photos of girls from their school and surrounding areas without their consent or knowledge. When this website is discovered by more people and eventually by the girls, we see how many people this situation truly affects.

Q) How was the role of Brooklyn originally described to you?

A) Brooklyn was described to me as the cool and easy-going captain of the cheer squad. She is confident in her sexuality while also remaining respectful of others who might not be. She is a loyal friend who wears her heart on her sleeve.

Q) Friday Night Sext Scandal is inspired by real stories. Did you do any research into them, or did you want to let your character stand for herself?

A) It’s incredibly sad to say, but I didn’t have to do much research on this project because I went to high school myself where things like this actually happened. That’s one of the many reasons why I thought it was so important this movie was made.

Q) You worked closely with Keana Lyn Bastidas and Anthony Timpano. Did you spend much time together before filming?

A) I worked with Keana briefly in 2015, so it was really nice to reunite with her. We all went out for dinner before our first day shooting and it didn’t take long for us to become good friends after that.

Q) Talk about working with director Gail Harvey.

A) Working with Gail was a dream!!!!!!! She was meant to direct! The shoot was a breeze, and it really is all thanks to her and Danielle, our fantastic producer. They both made every day better than the last and you can really tell they valued our opinions as well when it came to choices for our characters etc.

Q) What were some scenes that challenged you the most or that you’re most proud of?

A) I’m most proud of the scene where Brooklyn calls Shawn (Anthony Timpano) out for being the one to upload photos. She’s such a badass in that moment and I loved filming that scene.

Q) With the intense subject of the movie. How did you shake off a long day of being on set?

A) It definitely helped being surrounded by such amazing people ON SET but it always helps when I can call home and check in on my friends and family. I think that’s something that everyone could take away from this film – check in on your people!

Q) Devyn, as the movie progressed, it doesn’t shy away from the hard parts of being a teen and the way the women at school are treated by these boys and how normalized it’s gotten. What message or emotion explored in the film do you hope will stay with audiences after watching?

A) I hope the audience takes a lot away from this film, but most importantly the dangers of social media and falling into the wrong friend groups. It is so easy as a teenager to succumb to peer pressure, which is why I think this film is not only extremely important for young adults to watch but also for parents whose kids might be on social media and dealing with something similar. Social media wasn’t around while this generation’s parents were in high school, so it’s a whole other world that they haven’t fully been introduced to and it’s so, so dangerous.

Q) What did you personally take away from your time working on this film?

A) I think working on this film healed my high school self a little bit. To go back in time and play the girl who is extremely strong and sticks up for her friends is something that I will always be grateful for.

Q) What are the other projects that you have been busy working on?

A) I can’t say much, but I am headed back to Ottawa next week to film an exciting feature!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of the work you do on our screens?

A) There will never be enough words to truly express how I feel about everyone who watches and supports me. I am eternally grateful.
