Interviews
Doug Christies – The Christies: Committed
Q) What are the current projects that you are working on?
A) We have a personal project that we’re putting out soon. We have a book coming out and we also have our clothing line and our website.
Q) What made you decide to do a reality show based on your lives?
A) More than anything, it was a little bit to dispel some rumors that were out there. Once we sat down and thought about it, we thought it would be something positive. We have children, so as far as role models, we wanted to put something out there that had a positive spin on it and show that you can be dedicated. We also wanted to show that, as a man, you can love your wife and still be an athlete with a profession. Also, we wanted to show that as a woman, you can love your husband and support him with all he goes through.
Q) What was the most challenging aspect of the show?
A) I would say it as challenging just waiting for it to come out. It was coming for a long time and after we filmed it, it was a while before it started to air. Waiting for it to be finished and then seeing the finished project had us impatient.
Q) What is your most memorable moment from filming the show?
A) I would probably say the wedding was the most memorable because we had so many people here. At the time, it was hot and sweaty. It was also memorable because I cried that evening.
Q) Do you have any regrets from doing the show?
A) No, I don’t have any. I was happy with it. Hopefully, it goes into a second season so people can get more in depth into who we are and what we do. Not at all, I don’t have any regrets.
Q) What did you learn the most from your time filming?
A) I would probably just have to say that as strong as my wife is, I’ve seen her strength even deeper. Sometimes that can be frustrating, but she was still able to hold it all together and keep going.
Q) Do you think the show brought you closer?
A) Definitely! I think every experience, ultimately, does that. This experience wasn’t any different. It definitely brings me closer and it helps you to understand each other better and learn more about each other.
Q) Why should viewers be tuning in to the show?
A) I think that if they want to see something different, something fun and something that they haven’t seen, as far as reality TV goes, that they should tune in and check us out.
Q) On the show, you renew your vows. What was that experience like for you?
A) It has been fantastic! Every year, since we did it the first time, it’s been something that now is a family tradition. It was fun on the show because it was finally letting other people see an experience that is a piece of us and what we do. It’s been fun. Sometimes it gets a little emotional, but it’s fun for us.
Q) What would you like to say to your fans and supporters?
A) Thank you for tuning in, first. Thank you for being a fan during my basketball career and thank you for tuning in for this. Hopefully, there will be a lot more moments for you to tune in and check out.
