Q) Tell us the story behind your new song “Trust Issues.”

A) My single, “Trust Issues”, was written the day after a dream I had where I shaved my head. The next day I was in a session and looking up the meaning of the dream. It basically meant I wanted to let go but couldn’t which felt incredibly fitting of the current situation I was in. Growing up with immigrant parents, I always had an emphasis on independence. However, now that I’m an adult, I’ve realized the importance of leaning on the people around you and trusting others to help! This song is basically about that realization and how hard it is to let go.

Q) You are a part of social media. What kind of fan feedback have you been receiving to the song so far?

A) Everyone’s always super lovely and supportive! I’m really grateful for that and it’s been really cool to see people’s reactions to the song!

Q) What do you think it is about the song that resonates with listeners – the desire for all of us to let go of something/someone who we have maybe toxically held on to?

A) It’s strange. When I write songs, I never try to write about things that seem relatable or would even resonate. I just write from my own frustrations and annoyances and it’s wild that so many people relate to something that I thought was actually pretty unrelatable. It just goes to show that most of us are going through the same thing and that’s what’s really special about songwriting for me.

Q) What advice would you give to up-and-coming singers and songwriters?

A) Write as much as you can! Write as many horrible songs as you can! Just write and don’t hesitate to mess up.

Q) How do you typically shake off a long day in the studio?

A) Honestly, I love working in the studio. I’m really lucky to have awesome collaborators that make it super fun. But I have somewhat of a night time routine now. I tend to have dinner, watch an episode of whatever I’m watching at the time (recently that’s been “House of the Dragon”), and then get ready for bed and read Harry Potter (currently on Prisoner of Askaban) before bed!

Q) What do you hope listeners take away from exploring to your music as a whole?

A) That it’s okay not to have everything figured out and put together! No matter how successful/polished someone might look, I think everyone feels like they’re really a mess. This song and a lot of my songs are about young adult life and how hard it is to figure it all out while weighing under your own expectations and pressures.

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

A) Yes!! My debut EP is coming out in the end of October (date TBA). I’m so pumped to have everyone hear what I’ve been working on for the past bit.

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

A) This is a super hard question actually! I’m infamously indecisive so honestly, there’s too many people to choose from. I love Tate McRae, Conan Gray, Upsahl, Dove Cameron and so many more!

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

A) Man, I’m so, so, so grateful for anyone who listens to my music. As an artist, you’re constantly wondering if your work matters at all or if you’re just screaming into the void. When I get a DM from someone telling me how a song helped them through a hard time in their life or how much they relate to a lyric I’ve written, it’s such a special feeling. Sometimes I get down on myself and feel hopeless and frustrated but when I read something like that, it’s like a reality check of how lucky I really am to be making music and to have anyone at all hear it. So, thank you thank you thank you!
