Q) Please tell us the premise for the new movie At Midnight.

A) At Midnight is a romantic comedy that focuses on a forbidden love between movie star Sophie Wilder (Monica Barbaro) and hotel manager Alejandro (Diego Boneto). She has to pretend to be in a relationship with her fellow co-star, who cheated on her, and he isn’t allowed to date any hotel guests. While Sophie stays in Alejandro’s hotel during the time she’s filming her movie, they find a way to meet “at midnight” and pursue a love that goes against what they initially expected of their life.

Q) How was your character Tachi originally described to you?

A) Tachi was described as a “Bad Bunny-esque,” very confident, flirty and emotionally intelligent gay man. He yearns for his best friend Alejandro to finally pursue love instead of endless one-night stands.

Q) Was there anything you added to the role that wasn’t in the initial breakdown?

A) The dancing! The producers and director added my dance scene once they saw my Instagram videos of dancing to Britney [Spears] and Lady Gaga.

Q) What made you want to be a part of the film – was it the script, the character, or the costars?

A) First and foremost, making my dream come true of meeting and working with Diego Boneta. He’s one of my childhood heroes and someone I’ve always looked up to. Working by his side has been a career highlight. As well, I love working on projects that are bilingual and help showcase the beauty of my country: Mexico. This film is a love letter to it. I also love the aspect of bringing two cultures together.

Q) In fact, were you familiar with any of your costars from At Midnight before working with them on this movie?

A) The whole cast, honestly. All of them are people I look up to and I was so honored to learn from them. Meeting Luz Aldan was especially special though as she’s one of my favorite Mexican actresses at the moment.

Q) You have great comedic timing. Is it something that has always come naturally to you, or have you had to work at it over the years?

A) First of all, thank you so much! Honestly, comedy has always been a comfortable place for me. I’ve always loved to make people laugh, and that’s why I think it comes kinda easy to me. Comedy is all about being brave, taking risks and being present – at least in my opinion – and all those are things that I adore about my acting the most. I find it liberating. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it feels “easy” because it feels like home.

Q) What were some of your favorite scenes to film for this movie?

A) Unfortunately, some of my favorite scenes got cut from the film. But driving around Cancun with Diego on a Jeep will always be unforgettable. It was my first they on set and we got to chat a lot.

Q) What do you think it is about At Midnight that is going to make it a fast fan-favorite rom-com?

A) The chemistry between the characters! I think we were able to accomplish some wonderful magic and it’s obvious that the whole cast and crew love each other. The love we were able to create on set truly translates through the camera, making the story more touching and personal. I also think audiences will fall in love with our soundtrack and the beautiful visuals our director Jonah Feingold created.

Q) What are the other projects that you have been busy working on lately?

A) The next few months are about to be busy busy busy! My show “Acapulco,” which you can catch on AppleTV+, just got renewed for its third season. We already started costume fittings and we begin filming this spring. We’re gearing up to travel back to the 1980s once again. I have other independent projects that I’m starting to be developing, but there’s not much I can share yet.

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who are fans and supporters of you and the work you do?

A) First of all, thank you so much! It’s been so wonderful to have people join me in this crazy journey that’s been making my dream come true. I hope my work has inspired you and made you laugh tons. And I hope you’re ready because so much more is coming – more to celebrate our self-love, our sexuality, ourselves and our freedom to be whom we were born to be! I love y’all 💕
