Fifty Shades Freed

Fifty Shades Freed is a sexual escapade into the world of what’s acceptable to one and not to another. This movie speaks to all humans-the call to mate. Isn’t that what drives us all? Even in the animal kingdom; we all have to procreate. Now, some say abuse, and some say no plot. I differ in those opinions to an extent. It is all relative. In this penultimate chapter to the Fifty Shades franchise, we watch as fun turns to family.

The movie stars Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele. Dakota’s performance is the real stand out role in this film. She captivates you with her great talent never leaving you doubting that she’s in the character. Jamie Dornan plays Christian Grey in this sexy trilogy. We have Jack Hyde as the diabolical scorned rejected lover and former boss to Steele played by Eric Johnson. All come together to try to excel the third and final chapter to the top of the box office for the Valentine’s holiday.

The movie starts just how you would expect a Fifty Shades movie to start – sex. And hot sex to some (all). Anastasia and Christian ignite the screen with passion and submission. Anastasia is trotting along in a seemingly perfect life when the day comes when Christian finally pops the big question. It’s a day that lives in infamy for most who are lucky enough to have the question asked. Jack, who has been making unwanted advances at Anastasia in the workplace, takes it one toke over the line and practically tries to rape her in his office. The cops are called and Jack goes to jail. The love making is stymied when Anastasia tells Christian she’s pregnant. Christian begins to withdraw from the newly formed union of marriage and Anastasia begins to question whether she is going to be able to stay with Christian or not. Then, Anastasia gets a call from Jack. Surprised, she is hesitant to listen, but is left no choice when she finds out that her best friend Kate (Eloise Mumford) has been kidnapped by him. His demands are given and Anastasia tries to meet the multi-million dollar demand without Christian finding out. Christian is on her tail though with the authorities as Anastasia rushes to make Jack’s deadline. Anastasia, with a few tricks up her sleeve, enables the authorities to track her location but she is injured and you don’t know if she will recover. Happy ending? To some yes, to others no. It’s all a matter of opinion.

All in all, I think that this one should be enjoyed from home. The acting is dodgy and you can tell they are just reciting a script. There is a plot, but not a well developed one due to the shaky acting (sorry Fifty Shades creator E.L. James). Dakota’s performance is amazing though. She really helps pick up the extra baggage her counterparts leave her to tote.

Sure, you can tell it is staged except in the bedroom. The love scenes are the redemption to what is otherwise a horrible movie and trilogy. I was excited to see the passion on screen, but it was not enough to win me over to laude the entire film. You can take it from me, get your popcorn from the microwave not the concession stand this time as well. Enjoy what you can with a loved one by your side at home for this last chapter in the Fifty Shades trilogy.
