For The People – The Boxer
By: Dustin Bradley
We open this week with Sandra (Britt Robertson) and Allison (Jasmin Savoy Brown) boxing before work. Allison thinks that maybe Sandra should keep sparring with Ted and maybe take it to the bedroom too, but Sandra isn’t receptive to the idea.
Back at the office they are receiving cases and Sandra gets our case of the week, trespassing and fishing without a license in a national park. She is paired up with the prosecutor Leonard (Regé-Jean Page) for the plea deal. It was supposed to go smoothly and quickly – that is until the defendant discloses that he may have murdered somebody but doesn’t give many details. That leads us to Sandra and Ted (Charles Micheal Davis) investigating the sight of the arrest and finding nothing there.
It’s only until court when the defendant draws up a map of where he took the body that Sandra fully understands that something really bad may have happened. She is struggling because the defendant is her client, but at the same time he may have hurt someone so she’s conflicted on what to do with this information and whether or not she will be punished by not divulging it sooner. It isn’t until a friendly talk from Kate (Susannah Flood) that she decides to give the map up in hopes of finding the murder victim.
Sandra spends all night in the office and impulse buys the board game Clue, which she gets based on Kate’s story to her. Jill (Hope Davis) and Allison play it with her while that wait for the results of the search. In the end they find the victim dead along the route that the map was pointing to so Sandra is disturbed and unnerved. Clearly, she doesn’t know what to think about the situation. So, she turns to boxing yet again. This time alone it is without any kind of sparring partner and just takes out of her frustrations and emotions.
Our B plot this week is all about Seth Oliver (Ben Rappaport). After his first official press conference about a major drug bust is canceled he decides to take another look at the case files not realizing that the DEA misplaced a brick of cocaine and accidentally left it in one of the files. While he and Jay (Wesam Keesh) are on the train home a mugger steals Seth’s bag and conversely the drugs. Seth and Jay both freak out over what this means for them and their career only for the mugger to return it a few days later realizing that it was way more trouble than he thought. Seth tries to come clean to Roger (Ben Shenkman), but Roger doesn’t really care since it’s in the office when the DEA realizes it’s mistake.
Our C plot this week was Jill and Roger. They get into a little spat in the morning before work because they don’t have “the drawer” at each other’s places. The annoyance and spat gets a lot bigger and worse when Roger subpoenas Sandra in her case without consulting Jill. Jill takes this as a sign of him thinking she is neglecting her job and truly takes it to heart, but she also understands that a job is a job so she forgives him. He reveals that he’s bringing a shirt to her place to store so he will have a fresh shirt the next day. as they walk off we see that Sandra has noticed them. So, now it’s a question of what will Sandra do with this information and is she happy about it?
