Haven – Dance Like Nobody is Watching

Q) How would you describe your sound?

 

A) The new sound for 2021 is very upbeat I hope it’s a project people will want to dance to in the club or in their room! It’s going to be super high energy and fun, especially to perform live when it’s safe to do so!

 

Q) Who are some of your musical influences?

 

A) I grew up on Shania Twain so she’s my biggest inspo! I really look up to Selena Gomez and Julia Michaels!

 

Q) Talk about the story behind your new song “Dance Like Nobody is Watching.”

 

A) “Dance Like Nobody is Watching” is an up-tempo fun song just about being yourself and doing you! I loved writing it with Iggy [Azalea] and I’m so happy it’s out in the world!

 

Q) What do you think it is about the song that fans connect to?

 

A) I think it’s just a freeing song, when you listen to it you can just dance and feel the music, you don’t have to worry about what people think of you or how you look, you can just have fun!

 

Q) How did the track make its way into the hands of Iggy Azalea?

 

A) I’ve loved working with Iggy! We’ve been in the studio working on a bunch of tracks and writing for her project! I’m excited for y’all to hear what we’ve been up to!

 

Q) What is your song writing process? Do you need music before you can create lyrics?

 

A) My songwriting process has kind of evolved over the years. When I was younger, I would always write just me and my guitar. Once I started writing pop music, I would say 99% of the time I like to start with a track. I like to feel the vibe of the track, then sing melodies and write lyrics to whatever I’m feeling that day in the session. I never plan what I’m going to write it pretty much always comes to me in the moment!

 

Q) How much of hand do you have in the production of your music?

 

A) For this 2021 project I’ve had a lot of say in the production. I feel like I’ve been able to guide my producers in the direction I want to go. They’re so talented at taking my ideas and what I’m saying and making it all come to life. I’ve had a pretty clear vision for the 2021 project sonically and I’m excited to share!!

 

Q) Will there be a full album or EP coming in the near future?

 

A) We will be continuing to release music every six weeks! But all of the singles we’re releasing next year are part of a cohesive project, we just release them separately!

 

Q) What advice would you give to up-and-coming singer-songwriters?

 

A) I would say surround yourself with a team of people who not only believe in you, but will be there for you through it all. This business is so scary at times and it’s so important to have people you trust and can lean on.

 

Q) Who would you most like to collaborate with on a song in the future?

 

A) I would love to collab with Selena Gomez, Julia Michaels or Shawn Mendes!

 

Q) What album/band are you currently listening to and why do you dig them? 

 

A) I’m currently listening to The 1975! I just love their vibe. It soothes my soul. [laughs]

 

Q) You are a part of social media. Why is that such an important way for you to connect with your fans?

 

A) I’m so thankful we have social media during this time. It definitely has its ups and downs, but it’s been such a blessing to be able to continue to connect with people during this time.

 

Q) What would you like to say to everyone who is a fan and supporter of you and your work?

 

A) Thank you SO, SO MUCH!! It means so much to me to have support. I love making music, but seeing other people enjoy the music I make is the best gift of all!
